Edited 2 months agoA fugitive kind of score!
While this sequel to the big-screen adaptation of the tv classic, “The Fugitive” is the lesser regarded followup, filmmaker Stuart Baird’s no less exciting “U.S. Marshals” is bolstered by yet another powerhouse score by arguably one of Hollywood’s most hardworking film composers, the late Jerry Goldsmith.
As of this writing, it’s still difficult to believe that the iconic award-winning legend has departed this plane nearly two decades ago. However, as a testament to his enduring legacy, revered to his a genius-level of compositional skill and understanding in the use (or lack therof) of his contributions to a director’s vision.
To this day, numerous specialty record labels continue to re-release, re-master, often expanding on his hottest-selling efforts, re-recordings, and premiere issues.
This time, Wesley Snipes is on the run from the hot on his heels law enforcer Tommy Lee Jones, with the action deftly complimented by Goldsmith’s propulsive and expansive symphonic orchestral tracks, many cues buffetted by synthesizers and rumbling percussion, making for a markedly improved listening experience on this “Deluxe Edition.”
This new version of the score effectively obliterates the original Varèse Sarabande 30 minute presentation, more than doubling the total running time. Unlike the narrative’s protagonists of this feature’s finale, you will never leave this score exhausted, only satisfied in the fact that Goldsmith’s mastery of scoring in all cinematic genre scores remains peerless. -
