Originally released in 1994 by Unisound Records.
Album title is a Latin quote that translates: "I will not serve"
Biblically it refers to Satan's refusal to serve God, Eosforos was the first one that choose not to obey, to act seperately and at his own will, it could be reffered as the first rebel.
Necromayhem has this quote tattooed on his stomach.
The band already had a reputation outside Greece, especially after the Fuck Christ Tour '93
Unfortunately the label (Unisound Records) didn't promote or distribute the album outside Greece, and that resulted in some fans not to even aware of its very existense.. Tape trading helped spreading.
Recorded at the band's own studio (Storm Studio) it is the album with the most riffs and plenty of time to rehearse, but a medium production.
It is is the last album in which the band used drum pads, but with real cymbals.
Lyricaly this album attempted to achieve the very essense of Black Metal, it could be characterized as the most "dark" album, because at the time Morbid (3) were into Satanism a lot, Morbid was a member of the Satan's charch by Anton Lavey.
Although the artwork expressed the band for their work, the colors where not so intense, something that changed in reissues.

Someone to add/correct in notes that it was released and given for free by "Metal Youth" magazine and later stock of the same CD releases and given for free too in "The Forest" magazine. -
Excellent recording but the 4-page insert has no lyrics. Also the sticker is missing.

there is a reissue released back in late 90's in Greece as picture disc. bootleg probably. maybe its this edition. also age to arcturo and satanas tedeum picture disc as well.... if i well it was 1998-1999. all these three released at the same time.

This album sounds great!! probably just as good or close to being just as good as triarchy... This Russian release with new artwork is killer it comes with 2 stickers and i was expecting plain black vinyl and i got a beautiful white with black marbling vinyl instead <3. The original artwork is better but this is cool too. -

"Non Serviam" became one of the most thunderous manifestos proclaimed by Rotting Christ. The album was recorded at a time when the bands paid really great attention to the compositional and lyrical wholeness of the work. This album is full of inspiration and that is why it is rightly considered one of the most important chapters in the history of the band. This album doesn't sound extreme or heavy, but it is full of some mystical matter, some esoteric vibe. It would seem that in 1994 there were a lot of releases in the genres of Black / Death / ect. with much more brutal music, but many still return to this legendary record. The album is regularly reissued, and the compositions are played at live performances.
The memorable reissue from Peaceville turned out well: heavy vinyl with flawless sound, a huge booklet with historical notes. The sound from vinyl does not produce much delight: it just sounds clean and that's enough. I doubt that any mastering can correct the source materials, and here it is very important not to kill the very authentic atmosphere of underground recording. This album has gone down in history in the form in which we hear it. You can safely take it into the collection as a unique artifact on analog media. -

This appears to be the non-remastered version, which is great because the remaster sucks. If you're looking to pick up any of the reissues of this album, get this one. -
