Columbia Records Pressing Plant, Carrollton, GA

Defunct American pressing/manufacturing facility in Carrollton, Georgia. The plant opened in 1981 as a record, tape, and videodisc (CED) manufacturing and distribution facility. At the time, the Carrollton plant's state-of-the-art equipment was said to significantly reduce product manufacturing costs. Plant manager Joseph Kroll said he would add people when the Terre Haute plant closed and would bring his workforce to 1300 by early 1983. Record manufacturing began on September 28, 1981 and ceased in November 1991. As Columbia morphed into Sony Music, Carrollton produced compact discs from 1995 to 2001 and then focused on distribution until early 2013. The building is now home of Southwire, a cable and wiring systems management manufacturer.

Note some releases between 1985 and 1991 have the ⎊ upside triangle (which looks like a Fallout Shelter) on record labels. This mark, which helps designate the A side on LPs or 12" singles, is found on Carrolton and also Pitman pressings. This symbol does also appear on some CDs and cassette tapes.

PRESSING INDICATORS INCLUDE:
G in runouts: an etched "G" was present on all lacquers processed at Carrollton. 1980s pressings generally had a "G" followed by "1" or a higher number in the deadwax.
Attention: G1 (or G-1) in connection with “MASTERED BY CAPITOL” usually refers to the cutting room at Capitol and not this pressing plant
C in runouts: A&M releases pressed at Carrollton had a "C" code in runouts (i.e. A+M-xxxxx-C1).
W on labels: A&M releases pressed at Carrollton often can also be identified by the letter "W" printed on the disc label.
57 on labels: some pressings for PolyGram sublabels during the latter half of the 1980s, a "57" code printed on the labels indicate pressing at this plant.
70 on labels: LPs on K-Tel pressed at Carrollton were identified by a "70" code on the label.
TXG in runouts: indicates it was Mastered At (i.e. plated) - Columbia Records Pressing Plant, Terre Haute and Pressed By Carrolton.

Identifying COMPACT DISCS made at this plant is still being researched, but may follow similar conventions used on record pressings.
