    Hi Moanerman,

may we all please post our Top 100? ;)

So many great Songs and only 10 possible is very hard to manage after all that years in that great Italo Disco Music.

Maybe we are able to post our Top 10 for every year Italo Disco was alive (performing Releases in that Style)or maybe a Top 50 or Top 100 Complete?

The Start of that Italo Disco Sound was in my opinion in 1983, maybe 1982 in some Countries...

Discomagic, Baby Records, Blanco y Negro, Time Records, ZYX Records, Break Records, Rams Horn and sure i will forget that one or other Label... ;)

So please, an "Extended" Top 10 is allowed?

    Thx

    Thomas

That Rozzetta song is brilliant! Never heard it before. The 80s sound is perfect :-) I will post my top 10 soon, but if we can talk about more modern recordings in an Italo style, I have to give a vote for Savino (http://www.discogs.sitioby.com/artist/Giuseppe+Savino) vs Miko Mission's Mr Blue (A.B. Version) - it makes a boring 90s italodance song into an AMAZING Italo disco song, and nobody would have thought to do it that way when it was released. It's a pity it's not issued on a 12", although I have seen a catalogue number - Girare 009 - is that a real label?

  • Show this post
Can't find anything about that Savino's bootleg Tom...
    But sounds good.
Miko Mission's Mr Blue seems to be an expensive or hard to find boring 90s italodance song!!!

It's really nice when a lot of people talk about a record and you finally hear it and it's wonderful as opposed to shelling out decent dough for a tune and being like...underwhelmed.

    01 Rayvon DJ - I'm Gonna Dance

I think I heard it once and wasn't impressed. It's one of those (financially) overrated italowanker-records, I presume, or is it just me?

  • Show this post
It is indeed a lot of money for this record ....if you find it.

But I find it a fantastic song (not because it is RARE)

It's not THAT fantastic. I'd rather listen to Mr. Flagio - Take A Chance any day.

Can't judge why someone likes a record very much or not ofcourse. If you like Ryvon DJ better than any other italo-record, that's your decision. I wonder if you're not blinded (or deafened) by the rareness of this record. You say, you're not but I doubt that. It could be that you heard the other italo (not so rare like Mr. Flagio - Take A Chance) so many times that you only appreciate what's left: the more rare italo or italo for the "advanced". :) Just my 2 cents.

However, I checked his collection yesterday and it's quite impressive!

I've never heard the "Rayvon DJ - I'm Gonna Dance" so I can't judge

But you have a point there about rare italo records, some are very overrated like f.e. Dario Dell'Aere - Eagles In The Night, I was very disappointed by this one.

That's what I meant. His top 10 looks like that of someone like this:
    =================================================
I have also about 5000 twelve inches of Italo Disco on mp3 (all a + b sides)
    =================================================

I like some "italowanker" (lol) records, but not Ryvon, the bad lyrics really spoil it for me.

btw there's plenty of advanced italos you can get for cheap, just not the ones everybody else wants ;)

You're right about one thing IF I have the record myself and you listen many times to it it shall drop a view places in my top 10.

But for now it is my number 1

here is a sample of Rayvon DJ (for the ones that don't know this one)

Hey ITALO-neon, thanks for the sample. It's different than I ed and not half as bad as I thought, it's even quite good! ;) (judged by this short sample). Maybe I'm ready for the advanced stuff. :)

    1. 'lectric Workers - Robot Is Systematic (Disco Mix)
    2. Blackway - New Life

    6. Riccardo Cioni - Fog
    7. Charlie - Spacer Woman (Vocal)
    8. B.W.H. - Livin' Up
    9. Crazy Gang - Telephone Computer
    10. Blackway - Follow Me

    and bubbling under...

    11. Hananas - From Here To Eternity
    12. Kano - It's A War
    13. Memory Control One - Basic (Beppe Loda Remix)
    14. Koto - Chinese Revenge

    18. Mr. Master - A Dog In The Night (Instrumental)
    19. My Mine - Hypnotic Tango (Instrumental)
    20. International Music System - Run Away

As you can see, I like instrumentals and mostly weird/non-pop vocals.

  • funk_wid_it edited over 17 years ago
You'll find it's mostly only the die-hard Italo freaks that appreciate the vocals! :) ;). I was the same back when I started getting into Italo-just playing the instrumental and dub versions-but now I am also getting used to appreciate the vocals of Italo!

Some of those of them are not italo disco (moan, moan):

P&H - World Invaders (canadian disco)
Alexis - First Night Of Love (synthpop): don't know this one. Just judging this by looking at her discography on discogs.

  • doctor_trance edited over 17 years ago
World Invaders is usually referred to as early Italo Disco/Electro. It's not your typical Italo, for sure, but it can't be discounted and in fact, most histories of Italo Disco point to this release as an early form and start of the darker, Italo Disco sound. I knew as soon as I typed this in that someone was going to shout out that it's not Italo.

The Alexis track is Italo Disco rather than Synth-Pop. Don't believe everything you read. Especially on the new wiki discogs! Her initial 80's tracks were Italo, before she moved into a more synth-pop style in 1990.

Can't really agree with you on this. Just because it is claimed as an important influence on italo disco doesn't make this italo disco. You have to draw the line somewhere so it's(canadian) disco to me.

I have to take your words on Alexis.

  • Show this post
Personally, I'd call it a spacey-electro-italo-disco, but that's not really a genre. It's pretty far off from being straight disco, even though 80's disco is rather different from the 70's stuff.

If you don't want that one to qualify, I'll substitute it with Hold The Line by Chester.
