Hi! Just want to introduce myself because I noticed that you guys don't think that there's a real woman Italo following! I'm 20 years old, German, and I live in Canada. I discovered Italo Disco about 6 years ago, when I stumbled upon Doctors Cat - Watch Out on youtube. I was instantly hooked and never turned back since! I have to say that Italo has pulled me in so deep that my life has become a constant pre-occupation with the genre. I don't know if I'm the youngest female Italo nut, but I don't mind. I plan on bringing Italo back! -

Okay so I am certainly not a fake or a male. If any of you have Instagram my is Pelagieya or look up my name Caitlin Kegel. There is all my photography (which is my other hobby besides Italo).
In reply to my negative buyers score, it didn't go through over paypal because I didn't realize my credit card was no longer connected to the , and by the time I read the email it was too late for my payment :(
I'm not offended by the "welcome" though, because I was almost expecting a bit of a reaction. I mean yes I'm a young lady, but I know I have damn good taste in music. I can honestly tell all of you that I can't go a single day without listening to some Italo. It's the only thing that pulls me through the day sometimes.
I just want to be a part of this community because I have tried over and over to show people my age just how amazing Italo is, but they don't get it. They aren't open and that gets me down. So to have a forum where the common interest is the thing that is closest to my heart (Italo), gives me hope.
Maybe I will make an appearance at the next Italo festival, just to prove to you guys that I'm a real girl who's madly in love with Italo Disco! -

Definitely something you gotta ease certain people into. My partner only heard of Italo through me in 2007...(our first date started at my Italo radio show @_@) but it only took a few more parties to realize it was one of her favourite genres! Took her about a HALF A SECOND to get into catchy stuff like Ken Laszlo, Radiorama, Gazebo but is now into the weirder SPACED OUT stuff that makes Italo so perfect in my opinion!
Story is the same for a lot of my friends who had also never heard of Italo. Lots of metalheads, noise freaks, punx, etc so I think an appreciation of "nontraditional" music is the common factor. Still have yet to convert a "norm" who's into that commercial EDM shit, though :/ -

Thanks for your post Kopriva. I learned to live with the fact that music is only liked by few people and even within that group there are great differences of what people like or don't like (or even hate). You check some discussions here for example for proof of that haha. ;) Discussion can become quite heated both ways hate and love-wise but that only shows how ionate the people are about italo. This group is a nice community and special I think. Together here we form quite a big community and you don't feel alone so much. ;) Have fun sharing and loving italo disco with us here! -

Italo is like an iceberg. You have listened to so much during the years, and I'm amazed that I can still find lots of tracks that I have never seen or heard if before lol. It's like I have only scratched the surface sometimes.
I have a very good friend who is also a Italofan like myself and I believe that there are more ppl out there loving Italo Disco than U think (also a lot of ppl not willing to it it lol) :-)
Any way have been a member of Discogs for some years now but have only recently found my way to theese forums. -

Thank you!
Kinman, hi! I am somewhat like you, I have listened to italo since 1983 and to my surprise I keep finding "new" stuff year after year. I grew tired of italo by the late eighties, ignorantly thinking I knew everything, while in reality as a kid scratching the surface was all one really did...
How lucky then that I actually made a comeback after a very long hiatus, finding out how very very wrong I hade been... :)

Hi,
I guess this is a nice time to introduce myself as well.
My name is Chris, I'm from the United States and I'm 21 years old.
I don't really scour the forms as much as I scour through discogs to find really good synth-pop, Hi-NRG and Italo-Disco music and more recently I have started collecting 80s movie soundtracks.
When I was 17 I started listening to 70s disco music because I found a crate of records in the garage from my parents home. When I turned 18 I got into Hi-NRG music. My first Hi-NRG record was Lime - Your Love 1980. Maybe around December of that same year my first Italo Disco song was Alan Barry - Come On 1986. I like eurobeat as well. Although, I have more of a ion for 80s music. I've been collecting Vinyl records since I was 17 I used to buy records from someone in Philadelphia. I now buy music from Discogs, Musicstack, Ebay and from people I've met over the years. I always listen to this type of music on my way home from work I always play it loud because it's too damn good! :) In hopes that someone will say "hey this music is awesome" but this only seems to be a fantasy. :(
This is my little story.
Anyways I hope to get everyone here as well. -

On a side note/ another fun fact about me: I always dress up in a fashion that is extremely Italo/80's inspired. Wide shouldered blazers, retro colors, red lips, giant vintage earrings that weigh down my earrings, and such. I guess people don't really expect that from a 20 year old girl, because it sure does turn heads and stir up compliments from people of older generations -

Hi Kopriva,
That's pretty awesome, two minds think a like. Yeah you know this is the only way to get this music out there. Where I live, I doubt anybody listens to italo disco. This is why I do this, it's bad enough that this music is very obscure in the United States. It's very rare to see anybody playing this music at all. Maybe in New York, California or Florida but rarely anyone else it's kind of sad. I play this music often when I drive home from work the clubs here play only rap and other low quality music (This is just my opinion, sorry if anybody likes rap). To me, Italo disco can be romantic, exciting and very fulfilling. I made it through some tough times in my life thanks to this wonderful music. I will keep listening to this music until forever because I feel as if this music makes me a better person day by day. This type music is also very inspirational, it has a special charm to it.
Very cool that you dress like someone of the 80s. Keep the spirit alive. On another note 80's clothing is very sexy! :) -

Interesting thought. What I see (not only with younger people) is that italo attracts people coming form all sorts of musiclovers cause it has ingredients of those genres in it. Italo disco is also very diverse wether it may be more rock, wave, disco, hi-nrg, electro, pop etc. so many people find something that meets their taste. That makes it also kinda vague to say: "i like italo disco" cause you don't really know what kind that person is talking about... -

anyway the thing is not about quality of music, im not talking about people who can enjoy general pop music, italo is completely different pespective i think
it's about hedonistic depressed emo style and approach that only italo has. this is so relevant for todays youth
as said in vice article - italo poetry is so cheesy and cold at the same time that it's turn out almost existential, just listen to ranko "happy world". HOW they sing it makes me cry
the thing is to forget that italo is trash and take it in earnest - it will appear deep and devastating -

That's what people call "emo" (sometimes in a negative way) and I think it's totally o.k. and maybe the most important ingredient (next to melody perhaps) of italo disco. It's easy to ridiculise (for non italo disco lovers) but if you take more serious it's great, great, great! Good example I think https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ExiTxs3G2jk

Yes it is. Tracks that can touch
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S6agVu73-Hw (melancholic)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZGEnGDHPt4g (Not really sad, but that piano always graves deep touching the very right spot, one of my alltime favorite TOP tracks, the baseline, the vocal, the overall feeling, soooo good)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=um71D65NlVc (don't like the ohoho, but the sound of the vocal in the verses always give me shivers of joy)
And many many others of course. The exetional thing about Italo is that every track has something special, unique, touching. It just doesn't have to be a complete perfect song, but it's still perfect in the end. I don't know many other genres where this is so present.
When you hear an Italo track you instantly know it's Italo, but on the other hand so many Italo songs sounds so totally different and unique, funny, sad, dancy, exciting, uplifting, fragile, melancholic, interesting,... the complete emotional spectrum and more

You hit the nail on the head!
Not quite, not everything in Italo is trash, it all depends on your life circumstances, which songs you consider to be trash and which ones you like. Music is a very personal experience. The records I have collected are no trash, they are wonderful and extraordinaire.

no i mean trash like being rated-b, kitsch, vulgar etc. there is some top level italo but the most is like transition between western and eastern european style (which i find really trashy)
i buy records but only ones i really love. in my country im gonna bankrupt if start collecting italo

Hey guys well actually there is definitely mafia activity! Two blocks down from my house there was a bar owned by a mafia boss, which was seized by police. A few weeks ago I noticed something was burning near my home. The next day there was a report that the boss had burned down his own bar because "if he couldn't have it, nobody could".
Also there are men who are hired to help park cars all around the city, if you don't pay them money they will key your car or put locks on the wheels.
And yes the express or trams have taken a long time to finish construction but I see them testing the new trains lately so hopefully 2016 will be the grand opening, the buses here are awful and always late! Then again everything here is always late and business hours are a myth haha :) -
