Correct. These formatting codes will only work in the Forum & Groups and on your Profile description. But I will mention that unicode strikethrough quirk to our development team.

@ Weetzie I have another one ;) If you are on the page to order a release (like this one : http://www.discogs.sitioby.com/sell/release/1031719?ev=rci), there's different money. In french there's 2 problems :
- ¥ is not visible for Yen in french
- if the currency is not yours, under the price it's written "About xxx €" in english, but in french it's translated as "A propos xxx €" which is the correct litteral translation but really wrong in this context, should be "Environ xxx €" -

Wow, so close! Thanks for helping review translations, DaTiGaPoWa! I'll make sure that we sync with Transifex tomorrow, so that all of the new translations will be added to the site. I have a meeting set with our development team on Tuesday to resolve the three strings that I believe are facing (and a few other of the marked issues). If you want, you are welcome to add "best guess" translations for those strings, as they shouldn't be visible to anyone but Discogs staff anyway. If you notice a string that needs to be corrected, you can mark it as an issue in Transifex. I'll then receive a notification and I can mark it as unreviewed, so it can be updated.

I've updated some translations that where already reviewed because there was some context errors. I've marked updated translations as issue but now I wonder if it's useful to mark it as issue because if you update frequently the french translation files, it's maybe not needed ;)

DaTiGaPoWa, thanks for updating those translations! As long as you are able to update the translation, then you don't need to mark it as an issue. Once the translation is replaced and marked as reviewed, it will automatically be added to the site within a week. We sync with Transifex weekly, so you will notice the updated translations live on the site within a week, and you will also notice that each week there will be a few new untranslated strings added to Transifex.
For translators that need to make a change, but are unable to, then marking the string as an issue is best. I then receive a notification and can assist.

C'est vrai. On dit les CD, les DVD ... et ... (à fois) les disques.
Alors qu'il y a un système assez compliqué parmi les collecteurs francophones vinyl...
Avec les disques vinyl, on dénomme leur vitesse, donc 33T / 45T (comme font les Italiens aussi, 45 giri etc.). Au pluriel, invariable de la même façon (les 33T, les 45T...).
Mais il n'est pas l'optimum des solutions du tout...car chaque fois quand on lit 'un 33T', on ne sait que rarement s'il s'agit d'un album entier (LP) ou d'un disque maxi 33T dont les deux possèdent un diamètre pareil (12 pouces). -

Thanks for being so on top of the French translations! It's so great to have enthusiastic community translators!
I've been thinking about how to approach translating the Database Guidelines, and I think it should be considered in three stages:
1. The inline help on the submission form (Add Release) page should be translated first. Currently this text isn't part of the PO file in Transifex, but I have a story in to get the code updated, so this text is translatable. I'm hoping that we can update this code within the next couple of weeks, so hopefully you should see these strings in Transifex within a month.
(Also, just FYI: one of our developers is currently working on all of the strings that are currently marked as issues in Transifex, most of those strings need to be updated in the codebase.)
2. Next we should translate the Quick Start Guide. The way that help documents are currently handled on the site is different from other text - it will likely need to be added to Transifex as a different translation file, rather than just added into the other PO files. I think the Quick Start Guide is a good place to start the Guidelines translation effort because it provides a broad overview of how to submit without getting too technical. As the exact meaning of the Database Guidelines are constantly debated in English, we are concerned that adding translations will end up adding even more confusion, so we want to proceed in a specific and thoughful way.
3. Translate the Database Guidelines! This will need to be discussed with nik further, to be sure we are all in agreement about how/when to pursue this. As I stated previously, there is definitely some uncertainly about how to best move forward with this - we don't want to add translations that end up adding more confusion and creating more database submission disputes. In other words, we love the idea of having the Database Guidelines available in more languages, but we want to be sure we are prepared, and pursue it in a way that will help our community rather than complicate the submission process.
Feel free to chime in if you have ideas or suggestions about how to best facilitate this process, but be assured that Step 1 is underway and we are actively discussing Step 2 and 3.

Here is the English explanation of "Generic" grading:
Within the context of grading items in the Discogs Marketplace, the term "generic" refers to a type of sleeve that is not specific to the release. A generic sleeve is either a plain sleeve or a company sleeve with standard company artwork. A sleeve that is graded as "generic" needs no further grading, as a generic sleeve generally adds little value to the item and can be easily replaced. Sellers can further specify a generic sleeve's condition in the “Item condition comment” field if needed. A seller can also note if the sleeve is a company sleeve in the “Item condition comment” field.
Here is our attempt to translate it:
Dans le contexte du classement des éléments dans le marché Discogs, le terme "générique" fait référence à un type de pochette de disque qui n'est pas spécifique à la libération. Une pochette générique est soit un pochette ordinaire ou une société pochette avec oeuvres d'art standard de la société. Une pochette qui est classé comme "générique" n'a pas besoin d'autres titrant, comme un pochette générique généralement ajoute peu de valeur pour l'élément et peuvent être facilement remplacés. Bon. Donc, j'ai l'intention de traduire de façon identique " of Service" et "" partout. Je suggère de traduire :
- "" par "Politique de Confidentialité".
- " of Service" par "Conditions d'utilisation".
- Sauf sur la page ToS elle-même (qui n'est pas sur Transifex de toutes façons si j'ai bien compris), qui parlera des "Conditions Générales d'Utilisation", ou tout autre dénomination plus complète.
Donc, exit les "Conditions générales d'utilisation", les "Conditions générales", les "Termes du Service", ... dans toutes les autres pages, pour rester consistant.
Ca semble cohérent à tout le monde ? -

Hi! I don't have any translation ideas, but once a decision is made, perhaps it would be useful to add it to the French Transifex Glossary: https://www.transifex.com/discogs-1/discogs-i18n/glossary/fr/?page=3
That way whenever one of the Glossary words appears in a string, the standard translation for that term will appear under the Glossary tab as a suggestion.

Hum... on pourrait traduire "Guidelines" par "Recommandations" ? Donc "Recommandations sur les Propositions". Mais c'est peut-être pas assez fort comme mot, donc peut-être "Guide des Propositions" (ou "Guide sur les Propositions").
Par ailleurs, 2 suggestions :
- Titre -> Piste (pour Track évidemment, pas pour Title).
- Proposition -> Contribution. J'imagine que le sujet a déjà été discuté vu que c'est un peu l'élément central de Discogs, mais je trouve ça bizarre "Proposition" :D.
Vous en pensez quoi ?
J'ai aussi revu rapidement les traductions dans la section CAS, il y avait de petites incohérences (confusion / notamment). Si quelqu'un veut vérifier :). -

Hi there, here are a couple comments about the french translation of the website:
Some translations in the french language are too much "Googleish", and not really appropriate.
I mean by that: some words used are not exactly the correct ones,
as the meaning of a word can change depending on a certain context.
A few examples:
1-
Original green button (in english):
Same green button (in french): ENREGISTRER
Which is not 100% correct, the correct form of this verb would have been: S'ENREGISTRER...
or yet another verb (which is according to me, better in this case): S'INSCRIRE.
2-
When you take a look at a 's profile page, sometimes it's mentionned:
Submitted ... [a certain release]
Well, the translation made in french was "Soumis ... [a certain release]"
which is not correct. First mistake, is the fact a wrong tense is used.
"A soumis" would have been correct, concerning the right tense.. but yet, the word
"soumis" in french isn't 100% appropriate in this case.
"A listé" or "A repertorié" would have been way much better.
3-
When a removes their own comment, you can read on their profile page: posted a comment [in black color] that has since been deleted. over 2/3/4/5... years ago [in grey color]
In french, you can read:
A posté un commentaire [in black color] a été supprimé depuis. over 2/3/4... years ago [in grey color].
First mistake: one french word is missing.
The correct french sentence in grey color would have been: qui a été supprimé depuis.
Second mistake: "over 2/3/4... years ago" has not been translated to french.
1 hour ago = il y a 1 heure
2...4...8...16...23 hours ago = il y a 2...4...8...16...23 heures
------------------
1 day ago = il y a 1 jour
2...5..10...29 days ago = il y a 2...5...10... 29 jours

Translation missing for the "Helpful" button under a 's comment/review.
The word "Utile" in french, in that case would be perfect.
5-
On the CIP page, translation made for "times in CIP" is "Temps sur le PFC", which is false.
Here, times has been translated by "temps", but in this context, "temps" in french means "for how long" the has been on CIP...
Whereas we want to know "how many times" the 's been on CIP.
Correct translation would be: "Nombre de fois sur le PFC" .
Also the translation date of CIP hasnt been made "about 12 hours ago... 4 days ago.. over 9 years ago..." (see above for date translations, on Point 4).
Didn't notice anything else wrong, about the french translation so far...
An average french will easily understand the meaning of the current french words of course, but let's just say they're not 100% appropriate, in this context.

Do you all have suggestions for us on where we can improve it?
To elaborate on your question and what has been mentioned DeepSwamp, I'd like to give you my opinion as a professional EN-FR translator and French proof-reader. A recurring issue with French translations here is that they sound mostly computer-generated, and lack proofreading.
For instance, MountieMelodies, I read your draft for that help document back when you first submitted it, but I didn't have the courage to suggest improvements, because there is not a single paragraph there that a French speaker would consider correct. And suggesting numerous corrections through a forum is tedious.
Working though Transifex isn't a solution, since faulty translations are regularly approved by s (by the way, it's rather unsettling to see they're called "mainteneurs du projet" on this website dedicated to localisation, because there is no such word as "mainteneur" in French...). Of course, volunteers cannot be expected to provide 100% accurate translations, but the current level of inaccuracy of the French version of Discogs is alarming.
On that topic, I beg to differ with DeepSwamp's last remark, because in the case of the "enregistrer / s'inscrire" mistake, a French speaker may not understand at all what is expected of them.
Even the French page on grading an item's condition (https://.discogs.sitioby.com/fr//solutions/articles/13000014664-%C3%89valuer-la-qualit%C3%A9-d-un-article) needs to be revised: even though the article is mostly understandable, a topic as sensitive as item grading for the Discogs Marketplace should be flawlessly translated in order to avoid trouble. I can easily imagine a dissatisfied French-speaking buyer blaming communication and understanding issues on the quality of the current translations.
A solution to these issues would be to have the French segments currently in use directly revised by a qualified EN-FR translator. But is there even a way of doing this efficiently? -

Hi LetsBoogie, thank you for your insightful and detailed posts here. There is certainly a lot to be done when it comes to translations on Discogs, and regardless of the translation method there will always be challenges and inconsistencies in the results. Of course, that doesn't mean that there isn't more that we can do to increase the quality of the website for our non-English s.
ButtShark, you've mentioned Transifex so I assume you know how we currently translate our website and the processes involved. DeepSwamp, you make mention of specific examples where translations could be improved, and I'm not certain in reading your message if you've been involved with Transifex before. If not, I'd guide you to this document:

This document explains what Transifex is and how our s make use of it to translate the website. With this, and of course if necessary with further communication with myself, you could certainly track down the incorrect translations and offer better alternatives. As we do not have a French native working for Discogs, we do not notice these mistakes as easily as you might! So we very much appreciate anyone coming to us with comments on how to better our translations.
ButtShark, you speak to some legitimate limitations of Transifex, ones that we are continually encountering. Certainly, the only way to truly be consistent and error-free when translating is to make use of a small group or a single translator who speaks the language natively. Due to the sheer size of Discogs and the ever changing content (especially in the Database), I'm sure you'd understand the limitations we currently have here as a company. For the time being, Transifex offers us a good middle ground for being able to offer a wide range of translations from a group of French natives who are also s of our site. As Discogs continues to grow, I know that Weetzie and I hope we continue to invest in the internationalization and localization of our website, as our Database and Marketplace are expanding more and more into non-English regions. Having dedicated s like you both who bring these issues to us helps us in making a case on our end as well, so when hitting limitations within the Transifex platform, please do keep us informed.
I realize this is a long message with perhaps not a whole lot of answers. To sum it up, where possible, we appreciate any of you taking the time to correct errors within Transifex. When limitations are hit, or when issues are broader in scope, please let myself or Weetzie know. We'll guide you where possible, or make note of the issue for potential future development. Merci! -

Just added 30 missing translations, will wait for them to be approved or even updated/improved by other french speaker contributors (will add more once I’ll be out of work).
Edit: I noticed that it seems I can’t change the existing (but unappropriate) translations. How can I bring new translations (mostly what I’ve mentionned in my long post above) to the ones that are already approved ?
Edit2: correct me if I’m wrong, I think I found the correct way to submit a new translation for the existing words: «suggestions». Right ? :-)

Hey all, just a quick update:
There are many places on the website where we "recycle" translations for certain words or phrases. For example, we don't ask you to translate "Forum" for each place it's used on the website - we simply use the same translation across the website. However, occasionally that doesn't work. There are several English homonyms (words that have the same spelling, but different meaning) for which we incorrectly reuse the same translation across the website.
One example, which has been an issue for a long time, is "Credits". On Discogs, "Credits" might relate to Artist "Credits" or Marketplace "Credits". Obviously, in most languages, two different translations are needed. But until recently we were using the same translation for both. But, as of today, we have a better way of separating out these strings! Wahooo!
• Here is the string that relates to Marketplace Billing "Credits".
• Here is the string that relates to Artist "Credits".
Will someone please check those two strings to make sure they are translated correctly? The Transifex "Translation Memory" filled in a translation for the new string already, but I'm not certain it's correct.
And please let me know if you run across other strings that are incorrectly using the same translation in multiple places. Thanks all! -

Luckily here, the french language also uses "crédit" for both contexts and meanings.
Examples:
-Une somme de 20€ sera créditée sur votre compte ("An amount of €20 will be credited on your ")
-Cet artiste n'a pas été crédité sur ce disque ("This artist hasn't been credited on this record").
On both examples, the same word can be used: "Crédit" ("Crédits" for plural). -

Having some little troubles on 5 strings from the Discogs.com Localization project.

3 strings are incomplete it seems, as if a word was cut:
- "Merged 1%(count)s duplicate s"
- "Migrate All s"
- "Tracks belonging to multiple s will be migrated to the selected....."
The letter "s" is the only one remaining from the original words which, I think, should have been "Tracks" & "Compositions".
2 strings seem to contain the exact same sentence, even when I click the "[1]/[other]" buttons, which should allow me to switch between the "singular/plural" form of the sentence:
- "Editing1 1%(editCount)s 1Recordings" ---> On this one, I should also be able to see: "Editing1 1%(editCount)s 1Recording" but instead, the same sentence appears, and the word "Recordings" is at its plural form on both sentences.
- "Migrating1 1%(totalTracks)s 1Tracks" --> On this one, I should also be able to see: "Migrating1 1%(totalTracks)s 1Track" but instead, only the letter "s" was left ("Migrating1 1%(totalTracks)s 1s"), on the sentence that contains the singular form.
Will translate this as soon as it's fixed! Thank you! :-) -

Yikes, I'll look into that ASAP. It looks to be like there must be an issue with the way that code was tagged. You are correct, I'm sure "s" is supposed to be preserved as a variable.
And I'll also look into why those two strings aren't properly pluralized.

It's the string that shows items for sale on releases & lists pages (unless those are two different strings... but still, both would need a little correction then), and that string shows like this: "3 for sale from $5" (in french it would be: "3 en vente à partir de 5$").
Then you must wonder, what's wrong with this string. Well there's a "space" missing in the french translation of that specific string. Consequence is that it does this on the releases/lists pages: https://i.ibb.co/9htZYZj/correction.jpg

Ohhh, thanks for noticing this. It looks like this was an issue in Spanish too.
The problem was there is a space before the "from (price)" English string (which is nearly impossible to notice when translating).

I've corrected the translations to include a leading space. I *think* this should resolve the issue once those changes are synced. I'm pretty sure that string is part of a "macro" file that is used in several spots on the website. -

Thx Weetzie! That seems to be this indeed... a space was missing BEFORE the translation. However, I re-corrected the translation you added on it, as you've put : "*price variable*à partir de" ... but in the right translation, the price would come after. So I corrected it in: "à partir de *price variable*" (I obviously left a space before the beginning of my translation this time, though). -

ok if you want, it's just because there's no comma on the sentences to translate and there are some in the translations, but maybe other people find the translation accurate.
To go back to my question, as translations are synced pretty often, 3 month without syncing a string translated is pretty strange. -

Yes, actually the syntax structure isn't exactly the same in english than in french... that's why commas were added sometimes in french... to make the translation as close as the meaning of the english version.
And for that sync... indeed 3 months is a bit long but someone in charge as Weetzie will bring an answer for that. -

Hmmm, let me dig into this a little more. If the translation was reviewed, it should have been synced. We've synced several times in the last 3 months. We just synced yesterday. I'll look into this string today.
Also, you might have noticed there are some major updates going on with the Discogs.com Localization resources. I'll post more info soon, but basically, it's an update to allow Reviewers the ability to trigger Transifex+Discogs syncs! In the future, any time a language gets to 100% translated & reviewed in the Discogs.com Localization project, a sync will be triggered. There will still be a slight delay before you see updated translations on the site, because the sync will create a Pull Request on GitHub that will need to be merged by a developer.
I'll post a Transifex announcement soon with more information. :) -

I've found some bugs in the french interface, but it's not directly linked to the translations by the french team. Maybe more linked to the "recycled translations" has you mentionned some days ago, or some forgotten strings hard coded. Will try to report some tomorrow. -

DaTiGaPoWa Please only bring corrections to my reviewed translations if you notice a mistake on them. Cause I seen right now you made changes on some translations I made, and I had to un-do these changes as they're not correct, here are a few examples:
String:
"[Variable - Artist] Books at Discogs" (so the example would be : "Michael Jackson Books at Discogs").
I've put this as a translation : "Livres [Variable - Artist] sur Discogs" (so the translation of the example would be : "Livres Michael Jackson sur Discogs") ... but instead you've reversed the variable and the "Books", which would have given a translation like this in french : "Michael Jackson Livres sur Discogs", which doesn't sound correct as this string is meant to mention a book related to a specific artist.
Same thing with the "Films".string.
Also this string:
The er will then modify your inventory to make it match what's in the CSV.
You've kept my translation but brought a tiny change: an "I", in capital letter on the word Inventory. This word is with a lower case in english, so let's keep it with a lower case in the french translation.
Please only change my reviewed translations if you notice a syntax mistake, or conjugation/spelling mistake. Even though I do my best by trying to read what I write several times before submitting a translation, I may not notice a lil mistake sometimes.
But for the rest, please keep it unchanged.

I think those parts of the site seem untranslated because those strings haven't been brought to transifex yet. For example, the button "helpful" under a comment/review on a release is also "helpful" even though you switch to the french version of the site... But it's cause that specific string hasn't been imported for translation on Transifex yet.

Yes, there are several known places on the website where translations are missing.
I know that most date & timestamps are still untranslated. Hopefully, we can deal with that soon.
And the untranslated Settings menu is high on our list of internationalization improvements needed. A Discogs developer is making their way through this long list of missing translations. So hopefully you'll notice some improvements soon.
Some of them will be easy fixes that we'll update ASAP. And some of the areas that are missing translations are harder to pull into Transifex for various reasons. But we'll gradually try to "catch" them all. It's a challenge trying to properly internationalize a website as large as Discogs which has been around for over 19 years! :) -

I really don't know how to change translations in Discogs. One of them is misleading: "Payment pending". The explanation is simple: https://.discogs.sitioby.com/hc/en-us/articles/360011094473-Why-Does-Discogs-Show-Payment-Pending-On-My-Order-
But in French, it appears to say "En attente de paiement" (I don't have the French interface). This term is misleading and leads some sellers to update the order into "Payment pending" as soon as they have put the shipping costs, although they should leave "Invoice sent".
Could it be possible to change "En attente de paiement" by "Paiement envoyé", or any other term preventing the buyer to forget to pay for an order?

In this specific case, it's said in the guidelines: "Once payment is sent from either source, the order status will update to Payment Pending". In other words, after the buyer has provided a payment, the status "payment pending" appears until the seller confirms they received it. I it that "waiting for payment" can be tricky... it'll be more exact to put a closer translation of "payment pending" (implying: waitin for the seller to confirm thay they received the payment.... which sounds to me like even a closer translation). But no way to change this string from "payment pending", translated to "payment sent" in french... cause then the whole meaning of it would be changed. It can be done only if the original english string is changed first... So here, it's not exactly a translation mistake/error... but more like these words "payment pending", can seem a bit confusing since it appears AFTER the payment was provided.

Edit: I just checked the translation and it actually already shows as "paiement en attente", and not "en attente de paiement" .... So it's correct... I guess these corrected/retranslated strings haven't been synced on discogs yet.
Edit 2: Just paid an item right now and after I paid it, this automatic status showed in french "paiement en attente" ... so it's actually already synced, and correct. Then I don't understand what's wrong ? please be more specific. -

Almost every time with French sellers, as soon as they have indicated the shipping costs, they update the status to "Payment pending". They should leave "Invoice sent", and not manually set the status of the order to "Payment pending". I don't understand why Discogs allows the seller to put this status, in the first place, but that's not the question here.
When a buyer has a lot of orders (like me, but I don't think I'm the only one), he checks all the orders with the "Invoice sent" to pay them, and considers the orders with the "Payment pending" status paid by him. Some French sellers consider that the "Payment pending" is when they expect the buyer to pay, so I think the French version should use less misleading words.
I won't discuss here the used in the English version, but in the French one.

In this case, I'm going back to what you first said earlier... translating it by "Payment Sent" can solve this issue... cause I don't think there's any other way for a unique translation of "Payment Pending" to fit on both cases when this statut is updated manually by the seller AND when it's done automatically after a buyer pays their order.

Honestly, that order status name is even confusing in English. There have been many conversations about changing the name or changing the functionality. Hopefully, the "Payment Sent" translation will be less confusing.

I've initiated a sync by getting the "messages.pot (master)" and "messages_js.pot (master)" resources to 100% translated in French. We generally don't merge code on Fridays, so likely the updates will be visible early next week.
I forced a sync of the "messages_js.pot (master)" resource by adding a translation for those three problem strings: https://www.transifex.com/discogs-1/discogs-i18n/translate/#fr/messages-js-pot--master/173421640?q=tags%3Ai18n_issue
Once the database team fixes those strings, they will be replaced anyway.
One thing I noticed is that the "messages.pot (master)" resource was already at 100% translated & reviewed, so even though you had made some changes to some of those strings, it didn't trigger a re-sync of that file. I was able to trigger a resync by removing a translation, saving, and then readding the translation. In other words, a sync is only triggered when a resource gets to 100% translated & reviewed.
Anyway, maybe that's more information than y'all care to know. :) I'll be adding a page on our Localization site soon that has more information about the new automated syncing set up, since all Transifex reviewers now have the power to trigger a sync. -

The french translation used on this one is "à" ... which is a right translation for this word BUT on this specific context ("to... + country/countries"), it isn't correct. The correct french translation for the english word "to" in this specific context is : "vers".

Unfortunately, that particular string is used in at least three different spots:
Messages: "to: <name>" https://www.discogs.sitioby.com/messages/ (click into a message from this view)
Shipping Policies: "to <country>" https://www.discogs.sitioby.com/settings/shipping
Events: <date, time> to <time>" https://www.discogs.sitioby.com/events
One of our Japanese translators just mentioned this string is problematic. My hope is that we can "break up" this string into three different "to" strings. Then we can add the correct translation for each. It requires a developer to make the update though. I'm hoping a developer can fix this within a few weeks. I'll let you know when it's fixed. I was wondering something. This time it doesn't have to do with translations but more the layout. I noticed that in the english version, on the statistics section of a release page, the infos displayed are well "aligned", like it makes them more "clear" and easier to read straight at the first look.
In french, those infos aren't aligned...

I think ideally we can fix this on the code-side, because this is a problem for all non-English languages. Let me chat with a developer to see if we can fix this formatting on the code-side without creating other issues. -
