No great surprise I guess given it's been effectively abandoned for years, but still a shame - I was consulting it just yesterday ahead of a pending city break.
It sounds like the replacement Independent Record Store Directory will only be updated by store owners rather than general s. More easily monetized too, I expect.. -

It was a straight rip off of recordstores.love anyway -

I'll miss VinylHub. i used it to log the many record store road trips, and contributed some hole-in-the-wall stores that might not be ed otherwise. If the IRSD allowed the same sort of "visited" checklist, that might be okay. But it does seem like the stores have to , which steps away from the crowdsource nature of Discogs, when you think about it. -

Been checking out the new site...very unintuitive. Hope it gets better. Considering I'm in Canada, the fact it defaults to somewhere in Australia every time I open it doesn't give me a lot of faith -

same here, this is so disappointing !!!

But it does seem like the stores have to ,
the move is : if you're selling on Discogs, you might be in ( first) ... but no place for the other Brick & Mortar shops
ie. slogan should be modified "ing independent record" ... provided that they pay their fee
(so Independent?) -

I used to use it all the time on my travels but it slowly became unreliable and useless. I doubt the replacement will be much better. -

I thought it was a cool resource to keep track of independent stores that may have closed over the years . . . ah well.
I still miss filmogs. I wish that had done well enough to stick around. -

I used it last year when down in the South West of the country, I found goodwill type charity stores with less that 20 vinyl, being listed as record stores, Found published opening hours of many to be totally incorrect. It was a waste of time totally unreliable and useless. In the past I would travel 50 miles to a record store d online. Now I don’t want to travel 50 miles to find a store closed only open a few hours a week! Or containing only a handful of releases.
You don’t mind travelling 50 miles if you can have a few hours of crate digging. -

Yeah same here, I'm just outside Montreal and when I tried it I was sent to Australia! -

It's a shame. Guess I'll make my own offline (Excel) list of visited record stores now. Before my vinylhub information is lost anyway. -

I appreciate that there were lots of issues with vinyl hub, but the record stores section is useless. I checked it out a couple of months ago and it obviously needed work, but after the vinyl hub announcement I visited again and it hasn't changed.
The map doesn't have town labels, so you don't know where you are, and the addresses are pointless - in the UK, they're all listed as things like 'Queen Street, England' with no mention of which Queen Street. Really bizarre. Then regardless where you're browsing, if you're on an individual store page and hit the back button, you land back somewhere in VIC, Australia. Frustratingly unusable. -

I used it when visiting new cities and submitted several shops. If you're not a shop owner, the new site isn't interested in your contributions. I understand that spammers totally trashed Vinylhub, and I did what I could to report the spam. -

The new site looks woefully under-developed, and lacking in content compared to VinylHub. Apparently there are only 2 record stores in Edinburgh, rather than the 17 mentioned on VH? A real shame this. -

It (allegedly) isn't a "safe online environment for s", meaning; if it ain't being monetised, it's a target for demise... .
However, seems a shame to entirely bin it when it has some use as a historical archive. I doubt it would have been that much work to integrate it into the main Discogs database as a "store" entity. There are a number of (electronic) labels that are closely linked/have their origins in record shops/stores.
As the database has been built upon the backs of volunteers for over 20 years, it would be a great and timely philanthropic gesture to create a non-profit organisation and open-source it to a relevant community with the skills to maintain and improve it for future generations. -

That's 2 more than Glasgow has listed. -

Ah yes, "Cockburn Street, Scotland". The entry for nearby Green Cat is similarly helpful - "100 High Street, Scotland".
- I'm just off into Scotland, do you want anything? -

discogs Is there any way for shop owners to manually edit their shop profiles in the Independent Record Store Directory?
All is see is the following note at the bottom of the profile page (NOTE: THE EMAIL ADDRESS BELOW DOES NOT WORK)
Is this your store? Email [email protected] with your request for updates. Please provide your Discogs name for verification. Profile updates will be made within one week of submission. -

Does anyone know if they're adding back the Visited/Want To Visit etc features or will this strictly be for searching? Seems a waste, given that VH integrated Discogs profiles. It just had a separate . -

VH was my travel companion for years.
The new IRSD will only contain Independent record stores selling here on Discogs.
Doesn't look very friendly now, hopefully it will improve. But looking at the Discogs site improvements over the last years, I don't hold my breath. -

Well, I tried visiting just now and it's gone. Gotta love how they didn't even give a specific date, just February. Probably tells you they won't bother doing much with the replacement feature. -

Are there any good alternative sites which are community driven, meaning s can add and edit stores? -

I have the same concerns. Only a store listed while 4 in town. Also, I enjoyed marking which store I had visited and those I wanted to. I did a lot of updating for closed store around the country. Every trip I took out of town I used the site as a reference for stores to visit (at least 30 I was turned onto). I understand reasoning but perhaps a static page of those that WERE listed could be of benefit? Just a thought. I guess Google will be the data source now to hunt down shops. -

There's also an app called "the record district". I've only had a brief look at it and haven't tested it in the real world but it too seems underdeveloped. Hopefully one or the other will improve now that Vinyl hub has gone?
