are all entered as series because of the wording Série Artistique/Standard/Médium on the labels or covers.
However, these are price identifiers only. Between the late 1940s and 1968 all French record labels used a common, state-imposed system called "code-prix conseillé", which consisted of
- Artistique (the most expensive price, usually for classical releases and/or high volume artists).
- Médium (medium price. Basically for the majority of releases).
- Standard (cheapest price, normally for lesser known artists or reissues).
Either the full text appears or the indicator is a single letter, usually encircled (but not always), on the back cover and labels:
Ⓐ or A
Ⓜ or M
Ⓢ or S
In 1968 this system was changed to 1 (or 2) letter(s), usually encircled on the back cover, top right hand side, e.g. Ⓣ or T - introduced 1968 (price 24,70 FRF) or SE - introduced 1977 (price 42,00 FRF).
IMHO, all these series should be eliminated and the information added to the BAOI.

Maybe some French input wouldn't be bad here?

afaik, sebfact is correct -

Actually we have removed series if they were just formats or recording or mastering techniques stated on the labels but not real series.
So why not if they only happen to be price codes? -

borderes helped me with this recently and confirmed all ^^ -

I'm no expert (even made that error on one of my early subs I believe, which I should dig out and correct), but AFAIK it's pretty well established. I totally trust sebfact on this, actually, looking at his contributions to the forum he IS the expert :°D -

he IS the expert
I'm well aware of this … but the protocol just talks about majority decisions … not about experts – so more voices to say Yay are the thing we need to invalidate these …
BTW for the protocol: +1 for invalidating as series and use in BAOI as price code
Then I suppose Artistique should be added too. -

Sounds reasonable. I was always wondering why Artistique is considered a series here. I didn't know that it was related to price but it always smelt a bit fishy for me. -

Well, that nails it … no series. -

yay for not series.
sebfact
Given the "as-is" frenzy (often replacing common sense), I have no illusions though that it will happen.
invalidating the profiles should be a fairly easy way to enforce this -

+1 Price codes do not a series make. -

Artistique now to the invalidated series … this was originally the one why we started talking about it. -

Yes, it's another price code.
Do you think this series is related to price? -

Thanks! Then I guess this one too...

Problem is that such entry will always come back if we don't notify about it
see Serie Medium
Is there any possibility to have a remaining 'do not use' label, with explanations?
This to prevent s that are going to do the mistake we've done so much before
We need a kind of history, if not, history will repeat -

Profile has at least been invalidated to start with. Not sure what will happen if the 2 releases will be moved and the profile is later reactivated again... -
Show this post
That's a good way to prevent, at least for a while, I've tought about it...
But this kind of 'standing ' for a known and redundant mistake could be suggested to improve Discogs, how can we do such a proposal?
Another question:
I'm updating all that Ⓢ I found in my collection
but as this Ⓢ is sometime integrated to the cat# (with or without the circle), should we clean the cat# from that 'S' or 'Standard' or not?
examples:
Thad Jones, Billy Mitchell, Al Grey, Tommy Flanagan, Paul Chambers (3), Elvin Jones - Motor City Scene -
Show this post
By the way, wrong 'serie medium' is already wiped out from the database, so no more 'invalid profile' to prevent the future mistakes...
we can't stand scanning over and over the database...this 'standing ' feature is really necessary... -

The examples show that S or Standard are not integral to the cat# and should not be part of it.

sorry, by 'standing ' I mean, 'permanent warning'
(for a French 'advert' is false friend : ) -

I've found a conflict here:
L'Ensemble De Musique Populaire De Hamadi Laghbadi* - Tunisie
printer entry say this logo is used before '60
price code T on sleeve (after '68)
but price code S on label -
Show this post
S came first (1947 - 1968), T only after 1968, so this is effectively a reissue.
