Zipper Mobile
misspelt on several releases as
Geoffrey Zipper
There's an advert in Studio Sound from 1981 which spells his first name
Jeffrey

so we can be sure that's correct, shame we don't know if that's his real name........

Jeffrey Jay looks like a missing link here, all but one release connected to Zipper -

Zipper doesn't really sound like a real name. I would assume it's either a nickname that stuck or an easy working name referring to the studio.
+1 for merge to Jeffrey. -

Zipper is the name of the studio, not the engineer. :)
Do folks think that the existing Jeffrey Jay profile should be the authoritative one, or should the Jeffrey Zipper one be used (since that has the majority of the credits)? -

No dispute that's the name of studio. But, Jeffrey used that for his "surname" on a number of releases.

Use both. Jeffrey Zipper and Jeffery Jay appear to be using different "surnames". Alias per RSG §2.5.3 and link real name to Zipper profile. Merge Jeffrey Zipper to Geoffrey Zipper. -

Another situation had me ing this one. It's more common than I thought - and rethinking my thinking. It's marketing or nick-name. Not real. So, If we are still working on the guidelines (which seem to be never ending), I would like to propose:
2.1.4. Marketing additions or substitutions.
a) When an artist is billed as [Artist Name] of [Band] only the artist name is credited. The band may be mentioned in the Release Notes. Example: Just For Today / Don't Put It Off Till Sunday
b) When a surname is substituted the actual artist PAN is credited.
Examples:
ANV: Dani Dynamita = PAN: Dani G. (Company name is Estudios Dynamita)
ANV: Jeffrey Zipper = PAN: Jeffrey Jay (Company name is Zipper Mobile) -

Sorry, I noticed this a few days ago while out and on my phone, then forgot about it.
Hopefully that would cover the situation.

That's a good comparison. -

It's marketing or nick-name. Not real.
So, RSG §2.5.2
2.5.2. ANVs should be used for variations in an artist name such as nicknames,
Zipper clearly isn't his name and nor is it a name he uses, other people use it, so it's a nickname.
I'm going to go ahead with this unless there's any valid objections -
