Discogs’ Collection Tool Is Primed for New Improvements

Update: We first shared news of the Collection tool changes on October 30, 2025. This post was last updated on November 18 with more details about improvements based on community .

Discogs’ Collection tool helps you track, value, and share all the music that makes you who you are. When you catalog your records on Discogs, you can understand the true value of your records in real-time, giving you deeper insights into your collection’s worth.

We’re excited to share updates on the recent improvements and fixes we’ve implemented on the Collection tool, as well as a glimpse into what’s coming next.

What Changed

The first thing you may notice is a streamlined design, including updated buttons. We adjusted the layout to be more accessible and easier to enjoy wherever you are, whether that’s on your computer, phone, or tablet. These changes are aimed at improving usability and accuracy based on your . Overall, your experience with your Collection is now more consistent with what you’ll find on the rest of your Discogs journey.

This was all part of our effort to improve the technical infrastructure of the entire Discogs site. To bring you even better ways to catalog and organize your collection, we first had to modernize the code that makes this tool work. This update allows us to introduce faster, more efficient updates in the future.

Here’s what we first introduced:

Bug Fixes

  • Sorting
  • Filtering
  • Folder count
  • Value statistics

Streamlined Designs

  • Updated buttons
  • Column width adjustments
  • White space optimization

Better Mobile and Tablet Views

  • Expand for release info

Enhanced Page Performance

  • Improved accessibility

And here’s what changed based on your :

  • Dynamic Value Stats for Search Results: When searching within your collection, the minimum, median, and maximum value statistics now update dynamically based on the search results, giving you more accurate data for filtered items.
  • Visibility of Custom Folders: All custom folders in your collection are now visible in the dropdown, so you can view and access your folders as expected. The count of folders updates accurately when you add or delete folders.
  • Improved Item Movement Between Folders: We restored the previous behavior, so when you move an item to a different folder, you’ll remain in your current folder view.
  • Correct Folder Item Counts: We resolved an issue where folder item counts were inaccurate, sometimes showing “ghost files” or items that weren’t actually present. Folder counts should now accurately reflect the number of items.
  • Saving Custom Note Field Edits: s reported issues with custom note fields not saving new entries. This is now fixed, and any changes you make to your custom note fields should save as expected across browsers.
  • Random Item Button Functionality: The Random Item button now generates a new link with each selection. You can hold down the Command key (or equivalent) to open multiple different random items in new tabs.
  • Restricted Random Item Button to Collection Owner on Mobile: The Random Item button was previously visible on other s’ Collections when accessed on mobile. This has been fixed, and the button is now only available within your own Collection.
  • Fixed “0” Displayed Over Images Tab: The Images tab on profiles sometimes displayed a misleading zero, which is now corrected.
  • Resolved Loading Issue on Language Change: Changing the language from the footer no longer causes the tool to get stuck in a loading state. The page will now reload in the selected language without any issues.

What’s Next

We want to give you even more control over what you view and how you manage your Collection. With our developments, you will feel even more empowered to customize your experience.

We will keep you posted, but you may notice some modifications as things progress and we evolve to focus more on gradual improvements that are smaller, more frequent, and more tailored to your needs.

We’re still working on a few enhancements that we know are important to you:

  • Layout and Spacing: A layout update is underway to resolve white space and spacing issues, making the Collection tool more visually consistent and easier to navigate.
  • Sorting Preferences: We’re implementing a fix to ensure that your preferred sorting order on the Collection tool is saved, so you don’t have to reset it each time you visit.
  • Visibility of Custom Folders in Settings: We’re refining the settings view to ensure that all custom folders are visible and manageable directly from the Collection settings.

How You Helped

When we first introduced some of the changes above, the Discogs community helped identify a few bugs and some critical issues, particularly around sorting and filtering. Thanks to their input, we were able to roll back the initial update and pinpoint the bugs immediately. First, we updated the Forum and ensured the community that these issues would be resolved with the highest priority. Then, we acted on the and made the necessary fixes before relaunching the tool.

As we move forward, we remain committed to incorporating your community into our development. If you’re interested in ing the conversation, you can share in the Forum.
