Great release. I'm trying to discover and recreate the Surkit intro synth sound that was also used on the Atlantis remix by LTJ Bukem. Yesterday, I believe I heard this timbre in some of Madonna's songs during her show in Brazil.

a-side on my copy is pressed off centre. wondering if this goes for the whole batch. does anybody have a properly pressed copy?

Classic Detroit 4-tracker from Bonds and Shakir. Bukem lifted the main synth line from Surkit and used it in his Atlantis track.

I have a URL label release that credits Sundog and Serene to Juan Atkins. What's the story with that?

Edited 3 years agoEvery single track on this EP is truly superb!
FYI: Even though it doesn't mention it on the label, this 1991 version of 'Surkit' is a remix.
Massive respect goes out to Marty Bonds - one of my all-time favourite Detroit techno producers.

marty bonds is truly a highlight of second wave detroit techno. this is a rare form of techno, it lasted maybe only 89 - 91, but is one of the deepest takes on detroit techno ever. bleepy squeaky syncopated tones, sick maniacal basslines, future rhythms where you can still feel the funk, rock, new wave, jazz influences and the search for something... something new, deeper. contemplative but still driving.

All copies of this 12" have a small skip/pop about 3/4 of the way in on track B2,Reel by Real , Shake - Serene
