Edited 11 years agoWC's debut is a classic rap record, although his style is far from developed here. Stylistically the album fits right in the awkward time between Run DMC's heavy-inflection style and NWA's gangsta rap.You probably wouldn't guess from this album that WC would end up being one of the best rappers of all time. There are a few standout tracks the rest of the album doesn't live up to, but overall it is an important moment in music for 1989. The real keepers here are "Funky Song", "Aladdin's on a Rampage", "We're in this Together" and "No Mercy".

Edited 14 years agoA west coast classic from the golden era of hip-hop. The song "Alladin's is on a Rampage" by itself is worth the entire album. Pure turntable wizardry that established Alladin as one of the most accomplished djs in hip-hop history.
Other highlights are Funky Song and Pay Ya Dues. The latter had great MTV rotation at the time.
Reminder: don't be a fool like me. Try to purchase the original vinyl album instead of a reissue that's been out mostly in Europe. This reissue's sound quality is horrible. -
Edited 18 years agoThis is one of the most slept on hip-hop alblums in the history of hip-hop! The cuts and scratches are tight! D.J. Aladin does his thing! W.C. is tight on the mic as well! I believe that this is his best work! This is definitely one for the true hip-hop heads to have in thier collection!
