COMPARISON TIME:
2017 Steven Wilson remix EU press
Vs
2022 AP 2x45rpm remaster
Took me a while to compare these mainly as i feared for the AP (and i wanted to wait til i had two identical decks setup for rapid A/B'ing). In my opinion, the SW Remix of Aqualung crushes the AP UHQR. The SW Remix of Benefit betters the AP 2x45rpm but not to the extent of Aqualung. Yet i am glad to be aboard the AP fanboy train and say this double 45rpm does the business and does it better than Wilsons remix. For me its the clarity and expansiveness that does it for the AP. Wilson has cleaned up the sound again but Stand Up doesnt need beefing up the way Aqualung desperately did and Benefit also benefitted from and here the Wilson mix is abit too aloof. Too phat. Too closed in. Clean and non fatiguing yes. But compared to the AP its abit lifeless.
The AP just has more texture, more expanse and more life. Andersons flute sounds so much more lifelike in particular.
Pressing quality wise theres little in it. Out the sleeve the SW Remix from Optimal is MUCH quieter. As often the case with QRP/RTI presses, a wash clean before two or three plays is essential to finish the work the plant couldnt be bothered to. Once cleaned the pressing matches, perhaps exceeds the Optimal job.
Packaging wise.... theres no arguing on the jacket front.... AP WINS. Thick, glossy tip ons have no equal. I do quite like the extensive notes of the Wilson Remix reissues though.
Your mileage my vary as ever, i dont pretend my observations mean anything to anyone else but myself. -
Just bought this. Was about to listen to and........ just why in the hell is 'Sweet Dream' not on here? That one has been rising in the ranks of Tull favorites since I first heard it.

WTF! This record sounds amazing! I'll need to look for the other Steve Wilson mixes. Bourée is stunning. I've never heard it this lovely.

Adoro STAND UP, naturalmente la version d JT, no me apeteceria que S.Wilson estropee ' Back to the family', todo el disco entero..como hizo con 'WAR CHILD', para mi lo mutilo, le quito guitarras, amplitud, todo...tambien Wilson estropeo el increible ' Minstrel in the Gallery', lo dejo sin fuerza...

Not a patch on the original. Compared to the original mix the bass-lines are muddied and the mix is life-less. It is the first SW remix that I have been disappointed in.

This is my first SW Tull reissue and I must say that I'm immediately impressed. It's my all time favorite JT album and it sounds better than ever. What other Tull reissues are transforming? Any suggestions?
