This album has a lot of great stuff but also about 20 minutes of bang for your '>' button. I personally have always been rather kind of "Huh?" regarding "Black & White". I can't understand the message he's trying to convey, probably because I have trouble understanding the lyrics. The melody is ok but not good enough to justify sitting through the obnoxious 2 minute dramatization that precedes it. "She's Driving Me Wild" is similarly "meh". The last 3 songs on the album are not necessary. They combined take up over 20 minutes. But I do like the opener. Track 2, as deflecting as it is, nonetheless resonates, and "In The Closet" is an intriguing and entrancing set of sounds. "Can't Let Her Get Away" is an agreeable counterpart to " The Time" much like how "Just Good Friends" was a counterpart to "The Way You Make Me Feel ", except whereas on BAD the focus was on the here and now, on DANGEROUS, for whatever reason, the focus was more introspective. As much smoke as it was, "Heal The World", like "Man In The Mirror", has a worthwhile message that ultimately serves as nothing more than a fleeting bit of optimism for most.

Edited 4 years agoDon't agree with REENO.
I think that every song on the album is fantastic. i don't go for the trendy songs like other Djays. as a 60 year old who's been into music since the age of five. and Djayed parties from age 7.
i think i have a much more evolved sense in music.
Michael Jackson was a musical genius, if he didn't write the songs himself, he knew which songs to accept
since every song on this album was a hit. as in every album of his as a solo artist. -

I was already tired of Teddy's "New Jack Swing" aesthetic by 1991, so his tracks on this album (then & now) sounded too sparse and Under-produced to my ears.
As for the rest of the songs, I do like a few, with "Will you be There" perhaps my favorite. Although these songs have "fuller" production, they still lack the magic that Quincy Jones had brought to MJ's sound.
Because this album was half Teddy and half other producers, it is a bit un-even overall.
Having said that, I prefer this album over 2001's "Invincible". -
"Heal the World" presents high Sibilance on Michael's vocals, otherwise sounds fantastic! Would love to see this timeless record given a proper remaster though.
