Edited 10 months agoThis is one of my favorite albums from ABBA, but this mastering is dreadful, the last two songs on side two have sibilance during playback. Exactly like another reviewer has said here I experienced too. Its the only two songs across all their albums I get this effect on, that being said, all my other pressings are Monarchs except Ring Ring. Looks like I'll be getting the half speed masters for this album.

"The of ABBA and their personnel have memories of the recording sessions for this album being rather difficult. To begin with, their sound engineer Michael Tretow had to become accustomed to using the new 32-track digital recorder that had been purchased for Polar Music Studios. He said, "Digital recording...cut out all the hiss, but it also meant that sounds were sharply cut off below a certain level. The sound simply became too clean, so I had to find ways of compensating for that." The first three tracks for the album had already been recorded using analogue tape and therefore Tretow had to transfer all subsequent tracks from digital to analogue and back again to avoid a difference in quality."

Is it true that this was the first CD ever released, in 1981? I always thought it was Billy Joel’s 52nd Street in 1982.

got this still sealed and already there was horrible sibilance on the last few songs on each side. I can still enjoy it but the sound quality is just not that great
