Edited 4 years agoI always liked this album a lot, especially with 'Tempus Fugit' getting a lot of airplay around that time. Machine Messiah and Into the lens (aka I am a Camera) are great tracks. Though it's an outlier in their work, having Trevor Horn on vocals especially, this is probably in my top four or five Yes albums, after Going for the One, Close to the Edge, 90125, and Fragile. It moved into more quasi-new wave and post-punk instead of the twee faux-classical pop stylings of Tormato (which I truly dislike). Having heard the fey tracks that Jon Anderson and Rick Wakeman had cooked up prior to this in the 1979 Paris Sessions (found on the 2004 Rhino version of Drama), I'm grateful the new of band moved in this new direction. No one needed another version of Tormato. At least not this listener.
I always found the original LP a little bit murky, so I'm really happy with the sound on this version. Doesn't sound compressed to my ears, but then again it's been so long since I could hear the original. This one seems so much brighter and far more listenable. I also love the 7inch size replica LP for this whole series. They are truly faithful renderings of the original LPs, but far more readable than the standard sized mini-LP CD!
