Beautiful packaging, but lousy sound quality. Other owners have mentioned it being sibilance, but to my ears it sounds a bit like sibilance but in reality it was just high-frequency distortion in the left channel.
Other than being off-centre, the MPO pressing was flat and clean and the mastering EQ was quite good, but the distortion was too much. It was returned -
Terrible sibilance, but very quiet pressing. And what's the most surprising is that the record is placed into the white paper sleeve with antistatic nylon inside !!!!!! That's awesome, because 99 percent today's records come in shitty paper sleeves that damage them. Record buyers should strike and stop buying those with no antistatic nylon sleeves........

Sold my copy once I got an NZ original. I would avoid this pressing and just pick up an original copy (it isn't rare or expensive)

As it is with most everyone else, sibiliance is terrible. While it isn't the worst record in my collection, it is in the top 5. I would love to hear what people call a "GOOD COPY" of this sounds like. STAY CLEAR!!!

I guess I am in the minority here. I find this copy is actually bit more “meaty and solid” than my original US and Canadian pressing. The first track “born in the USA” right from the beginning (Bruce voice) is do or die test. Original copy is so thin and sharp like knife cutting ear, this one while still bright (that’s way in recording) at least it managed to survive. So for me this is the keeper.

Edited 2 years agoI had an original pressing that is noisy between songs so I bought this "audiophile" edition from 2014, assuming it would sound better. But, it sounds very digital, not good. The energy in the vocal and in the mix is just missing. So it IS quiet between tracks but the songs sound kind of fake compared to the original vinyl, not the experience I was looking for.

Glad to see that the sibilance issues aren’t because of my system. I run an ATVM95ML, a very forgiving stylus, and Bruce’s “s” sounds are just dreadful. Such a shame, given the fact that everything else about this pressing sounds amazing. So hard to believe that this made it to market given the extreme sibilance issues…all over the record, not just inner grooves. No other record in my collection has sibilance issues like this pressing. I’ll have to try to find a good, clean earlier pressing. All the other reissues from this box set are free of the sibilance issues heard on this pressing (Bruce always has some sibilance, but not like this pressing!). Such a shame.

Same MPO pressing as the US release... yep also getting alot of sibilance at my end on some songs and yet some sound warm even but then i use a vintage Shure cart on a vintage Pioneer DD and expect some warmth. Some of the mastering is dreadful and unpleasant to the ear. FURTHERMORE.... its pressed at MPO which means a near certain guarantee of non fill defects and so it is with this one... not once, but on two copies in identical spots. Its not the worst and its mercifully brief versus most MPO presses but it is there and its distracting enough (and quite simply shouldnt be happening) that i will return both copies and seek out a NM original. Also noted on my old elliptical theres quite abit of IGD and "my home town" especially ends up sounding pretty dull and rough at the same time..not good. A better cart would sort the IGD but may exacerbate the non fill and only expose the crappy mastering even further. YMMV but with NM originals out there aplenty im not sure this is the one.
