Thankfully I do have the original Bowie mix. This new mix is unlistenable. Is the worst (re)mastering I've ever heard. Dynamic range absolutely terrible. Don't waste your money on the 96/97 release.

Edited 3 years agoThis album RULES!
I don't care that it's brickwalled, it's more exciting to me than many CDs that don't have all this compression.
I would choose this over the original mix, this is still fantastic even if mastered too loud.
The alternate vocals in some songs are also great, like in Gimme Danger.
A MUST for all REAL Stooges fans!!! -
This Iggy Pop remixed version of one of the all time great albums is an absolute sonic disaster. It has an official dynamic range of zero making it one of the worst sounding CDs ever recorded. The clipping and audible white noise are off the charts. Do yourself a giant favor and go on a search and destroy mission to locate the original Bowie mix of this recording. The accidental genius of the Bowie mix is what gave birth to punk rock as we know it.
