"Most of the music contained in this album originates from recordings I made in London in 1982, whilst working on the score for the film Blade Runner. Finding myself unable to release these recordings at the time, it is with great pleasure that I am able to do so now. Some of the pieces contained will be known to you from the Original Soundtrack of the film, whilst others are appearing here for the first time. Looking back to Ridley Scott's powerful and evocative pictures left me as stimulated as before, and made the recompiling of this music, today, an enjoyable experience." - Vangelis (Athens, April 1994)
Also exists in a version with the name 'Vangelis' in addition to 'Blade Runner' printed on the spine.

Timeless music. As a vinyl guy his was the first cd I ever bought, a couple of years before I even had a cd player.

Edited 18 years agoThis has to be the best soundtrack ever. Eternally fresh and inspiring, Vangelis' music works without its perfect visual side (without any doubts my favourite film ever). I first watched "Blade Runner" way back when I was a kid and it totally blew my mind, probably changing my life forever, hehe. So did the music. A unique masterpiece which is not to be omitted by anyone.

Edited 18 years agoThis album is utterly superb, without fault of any description. It's such a fitting companion to the movie that many consider to be the epitome of its genre. Here we have an electronic album that also represents the epitome of its genre. Repeated listening results in a deepening familiarity and relevance, and for me this is an album with which I have a relationship, along with other masterpieces such as Pink Floyd's "Wish you were here", Jean-Michel Jarre's "Oxygene", and Yes' "Close to the Edge". My only regret is the lack of an available vinyl pressing.

Great record! But...
BR remains an outstanding movie, and the score is an important part of it. Thank God for this album, the sometimes mentioned re-recording is an insult and so unbearable it hurts. But here we have the original tracks, and they are the best I ever heard from Vangelis. Blade Runner(End Titles) is one of my all-time favourites. But-I also must tell you this:
as a representation of the music as heard in the film, it's a lousy album! There exist at least two different bootlegs with lots more stuff on them. There you can find the opening track, the music heard when Batty kills Tyrell, a complete version of the End Titles(over 7:00) and, very important, the music for the Deckard-Batty fight, the truly thunderous "Wounded Animals", a 10:00-track that is an amazing piece of music-it's raw and very powerful, which is probably why it's not on the official release, which seems to be aimed at female fans in need of music they can fall asleep to(just kidding). -
This is the proof that Vangelis is no new age nonsense perpetrator, but a masterful creator of sparce, poignant and beautifully atmospheric electronic landscapes capable of highlighting the wierdness and the beauty, as well as the epic proportions of a remarkable movie. No other soundtrack that I have managed to capture quite as perfectly the rich imaginery of science fiction and the sense of otherworldly metaphisical angst. Aphex Twin, Global Communications, FSOL and DJ Krush are just a few of the names that owe something to this historical album.

This is one of the finest pieces of electronic music you'll hear. Although this is a soundtrack, as an album it flows superbly. I must disagree that 'one more kiss' ruins the flow - I think that it trips the album out even further, and when the synth strings from the next track begin you're sucked straight back into the atmosphere.
I've been after a copy of this on vinyl, and apparently there was a very limited number produced before being recalled - anyone got any info on that?
Rachel's Song was sampled on FSOL - Dead Cities. -
There are several versions of the soundrack out. Be VERY careful which one you buy. The actual Vangelis one is excellent, but stay away from orchestral version, becasue you might be disappointed. I have both versions. In my opinion it is the best movie soundtrack ever.

seminal work has a dark edge to it, sampled for dillinja's "angels fell" and for trace's "beacon"
one of my favourite albums, stay away from "one more kiss..." as it ruins the flow of the album.
there are a couple of booties of this floating around with different trax (one is performed by a 40 piece orchestra the other was released in 86 by vangelis as a limited run of 1000 very desireable...)
