maybe the worst lp i've heard in 2014 ( with terrestrials )
the ugly voice of Scott Walker definitely doesn't work with Sunn's sound
looks like a cheap junk operetta for petit bourgeois
boring to death and really disappointing
long life to Black one

Having said all that, who am I to be telling the incomparable Scott Walker just who he should and shouldn't be working with ?! T'would be laughable were it not so pathetic.

"Soused" is right! This record is soaked in Sunn's drone. To my mind this would be a far better record without them. It's not that I dislike Soused, far from it, only that the drone becomes tiresome after a while. Because of this, I feel this is the least interesting record Scott Walker has made in a very long time indeed. I just can't see what he felt Sunn could bring to the party that he couldn't do better himself, with his trusty group of regular musicians and Peter Walsh. This makes me wonder if there wasn't some pressure put on him by 4AD to do this collaboration to help recoup some of the money they've undoubtedly spent on him over the last 8 or 9 years. Someone posted a comment on the trailer for Soused on YouTube, saying that for them, this album was most interesting on the first listen, due to the element of surprise and that they got less out of it with each subsequent listen. I think there may well be some truth in this, which is completely the opposite of the listening experience with Climate of Hunter, Tilt, The Drift and Bish Bosch. Strangely enough, I also find the distorted guitar drones of Sunn to be much more malevolent sounding than even the very unsettling and disturbing real strings used on The Drift and Bish Bosch. There is something about this electric "soup" that feels especially toxic. I think it a real shame as this could have been another great Walker album. I can the first time I heard that Guns 'n' roses like four note sequence near the beginning of Brando and thinking that I wasn't too sure about this! I'm still not.

Edited 10 years agoThe most fucked up album Sunn has ever done, and I love every minute of it. It's worth every penny.

Just realized that Scott never did anything bad. Not that i know of at least.
Well my should arrive soon, so an upate is incoming!
Cheers
