Notes

Issued with an oval hype sticker applied to the shrink wrap front and a larger sticker with more details on the shrink wrap back.

First pressing is limited to 50,000 copies and includes 3 separate slim cases for the first 3 CDs, a special case for the Static Age CD with a separate 4-page booklet as it does not fit into the special case, plus a 'special enamel Fiends Club badge'.

The second pressing Misfits - The Misfits Box Set does not include the special Static Age case and booklet. Some copies of the second pressing include the 'Fiend Club' pin/badge and some do not.

All pressings are issued in a coffin-shaped box with red felt lining and include a 28-page booklet with liner notes, discography, photos, and lyrics.

CD3 - "Sessions" is a series of non-album recordings (rarities, outtakes, alternative takes) collected from various studio sessions, most lack an exact date or studio names. Tracks from "Sessions (1977)" are previously released on Cough/Cool, but are remixed here.

CD4 - "Static Age" tracks are recorded in one studio session in 1978, but never released in a collected album format until this box set, since a planned release on Halloween 1995 was cancelled.
The subsequent Static Age Lp release in 1997 contains 3 additional tracks and a new mix, but it lacks the first and last 'Static Noise' tracks (4-01 and 4-16) that are included here, but are not mentioned on the tracklists.

The title 'The Misfits Box Set' is not to be found on the release itself, but evolved and stuck over time since the release is accompanied by Misfits - A Special Sampler Edition Of The Misfits Box-set (CAR 7529) and was marketed as 'The Misfits Coffin-Shaped Box Set' on cardboard posters by Caroline Records.
The exact title 'The Misfits Box Set' has been used in the discography of misfitscentral.com early on, possibly the origin of this title here on discogs.

I'll give everyone who's not in the know some info about this box set. They included all the songs from Collections 1 and 2 except for Bullet and Last Caress, presumably because they assumed these same versions were on the included Staic Age cd, but that's actually not the case, the 7 inch version of Bullet is a little different, it features a count in before the song. The version of Last Caress on Collection 2 is also different from the Static Age version, it was remixed in 1979 for the Beware ep. They REALLY should have included both of those songs, you can't make your own singles collection without using an inferior sounding version of Bullet from Collection 1, because it's from an old 1986 cd source. At least you CAN use Last Caress from the Collection 2 cd(assuming you have it), because it was released around the same time as the box set, so the remixed version of Last Caress is remastered accordingly. The single version of Bullet will always sound like crap until they give it a proper remaster. Also, they removed the few seconds of Jerry talking from the beginning of Teenagers From Mars from Collection 1 on the box set as well for some reason, so now the true single version of that song is also no longer represented. So you can't make a true singles collection in really good quality now, which is pretty lame. All they would really need to do to rectify this would be to re-release Collection 1 remastered(which they really should have done a long time ago anyway, being released in 1986 it was the first Misfits cd, and one of the worst sounding ones for that reason, cds back then for the most part sounded very shrill due to limited technology with the format), but the problem with that is, they have now gone too far in the OTHER direction, ever since the Loudness Wars started around the turn of the century they have kept making cds sound louder and more and more compressed, and, despite being made aware of this issue YEARS ago, they show no signs of stopping now, so if they were to reissue and remaster it now using today's techniques, it would most likely sound even worse than the original cd from 1986. The golden age of cd mastering was between 1990 and 1997, which is why everything on this box set sounds so good, I can no longer listen to any of the older Misfits cds (other than Collection 2) for that reason, I'm pretty sure they were all released before 1990, and sound pretty bad because of it, Legacy ESPECIALLY sounds bad on the old cd(and even vinyl, which is why they re-released it on vinyl a few years ago using these same remasters), after hearing those same remixed songs from that album on this collection properly remastered, I now like them nearly as much as the original Static Age versions. The only other problem with this set that I'm aware of is that the versions of Cough/Cool and She from the original 1977 7" are pitched wrong and run a little too fast, but being sourced from a vinyl rip these aren't as big of a deal, you can find the properly pitched versions from different fans posted on youtube, and get them from there. The box also SHOULD have included Glenn's solo Who Killed Marilyn/Spook City USA 7" from 1981, I assume that either he wouldn't give them the rights, or, like with the Cough/Cool 7", perhaps the masters have been lost, that seems to be the case since he recently re-released it himself, just cleaning up and using the same old fan-sourced vinyl rip that has been available online for years now(which actually sounds BETTER than the new re-release, he must have applied too much noise reduction and compressed the sound). I just wish that they had remastered Samhain's catalog and released that box set when they did this one, by the time that came around a few years later the Loudness Wars were in full swing, and the songs really suffer because of it, but they are still preferable to the old cds(just). I'm just glad they released both of these sets when they did, if they had waited until the mid-2000's or later they would just be an unlistenable, distorted mess. Definitely grab this if you can.

Anyone know how to tell which version you have if it's sealed? I have a sealed one and don't want to open to figure it out. The back sticker on the version I have matches the pics on this Discogs entry. Thanks!

Get the originals and stand alone versions. This has 90's noise reduction in all of the fade ins and outs, as well as the audience noise on Evilive. It's bad, and once you hear it, you can't un-hear it. The originals don't have this noise reduction.

          This needs to be re-released!
Please release a new box set with 8-9 CD's (along with stuff from Michael Graves era).

          Do the same with Samhain!

Is the ghost on the discs of this pressing printed white? It seems to look that way for discs 1, 2, and 3. Disc 4 looks more like my 3rd repress discs which the ghost is not white but blank so that the disc itself is visible.

Both collections ie Misfits (I) and II have been truncated to 26 tracks total to fit on one CD of the boxset. The stand alone releases have 20 tracks each. The omitted tracks may be the same versions appearing elsewhere on the other discs of this set. Fairly certain some of the tracks are indeed EAD album versions but never took the time to the rest.

Why Is Bullet missing from Collection 1 in this set & Last Caress is missing from Collection 2? The Version of Bullet on Static Age album is different from the 7" inch version of Bullet on Collection 1. Also, Last Caress on Static Age album is different than the Remix on Collection 2?
