Notes
Recorded at intervals between November 1999 and May 2000 at Matrix, Wessex, Parr Street and Rockfield Studios, except 'High Speed' recorded Summer 1999 at Orinoco.
Thanks to everyone who has helped and ed us.
This album is for Sara Champion.
Durations do not appear on the release.
Track B6 is hidden (not mentioned anywhere in the release).
Issued with picture inner bag.
Matte cover.
The labels of this release feature two concentric indented circles and EMI Records Ltd. as the copyright owner.
Other similar European editions:
- Parachutes: an almost identical release (probably a reissue or a reprint) with the same copyright owners and runouts, the only difference being the labels that are "flat" and do not have the two concentric indented circles but, instead, only one circle.
- Parachutes: a reissue with identical runouts but with Parlophone Records Ltd. as the owner of the copyrights
- Parachutes: 2008 reissue with EMI Records Ltd. as the owner of the copyrights but different runouts
- Parachutes: 2017 reissue with EMI Records Ltd. AND Parlophone Records Ltd. as the owners of the copyrights and different runouts
- Parachutes: a Worldwide reissue with EMI Records Ltd. AND Parlophone Records Ltd. as the owners of the copyrights, different runouts and "Printed in The Netherlands" on the back cover.
How to know if you have a copy of this original European 2000 release or a later reissue/repress:
- Was released WITHOUT shrink wrap - Anyone trying to sell a "sealed" copy is selling a repress, not the original press
(however, it is possible that some copies sold in the US may have been shrink wrapped)
- Check image number 7 showing the spine of the outer sleeve
- Different fonts are used on the spine
- Digits should be smaller than letters
- More space "between" digits and letters, and also more space in "space between" digits
- Sharper text (since not scanned and reprinted)

Wondering if anyone has this pressing and later pressing (UK/EU or US) that can share the sonic differences in of pressing, dynamics/compression, clarity, etc. Much appreciated.

Discogs sellers can’t seem to get this one right. 0/2, one copy scratched to hell that was “mint”, one copy was not as d and was a later repress. Both shipped in the cruddy cardboard sleeve. Shame I can’t properly review this pressing, but I’m done chasing it stateside.

Edited 2 years agoI think I have this version (2000-press) and I have this one:
https://www.discogs.sitioby.com/release/24139385-Coldplay-Parachutes
Some difference I noticed (except the ones mentioned) is that the 2000 is about 25grams lighter and the edge of the vinyl is more blunt, almost the same feeling as an old 78rpm.

Any jokers on here claiming they have a sealed mint are either idiots or thieves. It is quite difficult to a first press for the record, believe me. Pretty much the only way is to look at the records of a small indentation of the inner label. Thats literally it.
and even if it is open, most people don't know the difference between a repress and a 1st.
So if you're truly on the hunt for a first, ask for pictures before buying!!! -
In the notes it states this copy was never sold shrink wrapped, but I bought my copy in 2001 and it came wrapped with a small yellow sticker stating “imported by EMI Music Canada SIS”.

The 🐐 of Coldplay albums. Found a Barnes & Noble in Boston that had one copy left and it was playing in my home in Brooklyn a couple days later. Such a great album and sounds terrific!
