Hello girls............Who sampled the great vocal sounds like........"down on the radio"
I thought Lenny Dee used it in a brilliant Electro tune 1990 ish but it isnt listed on Discogs.
Anyone help please.........thank you. -

my ears deceive me.
any help would be great -
Edited 12 years agoPretty much signaled the end of Hashim's creative run from "Its Time" in 83 to "Its Nasty" in 85.
This song has always struck me as a threadbare retread of attributes from his two earlier stellar singles.
All the parts are apparently there,
the breaking 808 drums,
the distorted vocal chant,
the whining keyboard leads, but they just aren't coming together correctly IMO.
The baseline is almost atonal and directionless,
the keyboard leads are redundantly plodding,
and the vocal chant just feels like an arbitrary version of what had worked so well on the first 2 singles.
Hashims creativity just sounds "tired" here.
Whereas you could still throw on "Its Time" on from 3 years earlier and he sounds infinitely more enthusiastic. -
Among the best! Though it would not be classified as techno by most, when I listen to the production in this track and compare it to all other electronic styles of music (hip hop, disco, synth-pop, house, and yes, electro) this one really fits in snugly into the vast realm of techno. And well let's face it - I feel this track is superb on all fronts. Extremely strong on all fronts... KILLER! Dig it.

it's bassline seems to be played on a real bass guitar, which is pretty rare in electro...i think it was the last 12" he has done, but i'm not sure...also he seems into esoteric things, as jams like al-nafiysh or chatau vie suggest...very atmospheric and musical!

Edited 20 years agoI'm a great fan of old-school styles, but I discovered this one only from Dave Clarke's compilation 'X-Mix Electro Boogie' (BTW: I recommend this comp. to any electro-head). This one is excellent. Demonstrates the great innovation made by Hashim. I mean involving clean melodic orchestral strings into underground electro. This mixture (with pumping bass and 808-state and vocoders...) was quite perfect, which was shown in 'Al-Naafysh' and 'B-Boy's Breakdance', also produced by him. This conception lays (from my point of view) in the beginning of an ambient-based branch of electro, which is represented nowadays by such artists as Anthony Rother and Boris Divider and their company. This party seems simply essential for me.

Edited 20 years agoThis track is a little forgotten unlike Hashim's other masterpiece Al-Naafyish (The Soul).
Much more mellow and less slammin' than some of Hashim's other classics, this has got one of the funkiest bass lines you are ever likely to hear. Melancholic, hypnotic and classy synth-string arrangement, nice sweeping touches and groovy 808 drum undertones. Still very listenable nowadays even though it was released in 1986.
If your into old skool electro with depth, then this should be in your collection, if it's not, then unlike myself you should go out and get it ASAP! Classic!
