Edited 20 years agoThis is a strange album in David Bowie's career. Just a collection of really old songs (even at the time it was recorded) played pretty close to the orignals, only with a bit more Class, Glam-Flair and Speed. This fits the songs fine. I used to listen to a CD of this in the 80ies , when CD's came in style and i only knew 2 or 3 of the original songs back then . David choosed real catchy Hits, such as Pink Flods "See Emily Play" , The Who's first Single Hit "I Can't Explain" and the other Who Song here "Anyway, Anywho, Anywhere" and both Yardbirds songs are great Rockers played by the tight musicians that Bowie here esp. Aynsley Dunbar on drums, Mick Ronson (from Mott The Hoople fame) on Lead Guitar and KeyboardsThe Easybeats "Friday On My Mind" , which is THE song for every working man ;-). "On monday i got friday on my mind" and the strange arrangement of The Merseybeats "Sorrow" are unforgetable . Bowie sticks to the originals bu makes the songs sound like his own material here-The tracks are timeless and POP in a good way. Not a fantastic album at any measure, but i like it a lot and i guess there aren't too many music lovers around, who don't enjoy at least half of the featured material. (i am only talking about the 12 original tracks, not the 2 added songs on this edition).
A pity i lost this recording, gotta look for a cheap Vinyl album at eBay. Bowie hardly ever looked better than on this album cover (Pin Ups !!!). Must have been released before "Ziggy Stardust" and after "Hunky Dory" - around "Alladin Sane" so it's PURE GLAM.
A great drawing on blue background where you can see his two colored eyes (one blue , on brown)
