Rolling Stones* – 30 Greatest Hits

This was one of my first Rolling Stones compilation on vinyl (after a 1982 on a Philips tape) and the sound is great though it is funny that they would promote it as "Unedited original hits" given that the choir intro of YCAGWYW is blatantly edited out. Anyway great tracklist and a much better choice than a lot of Klein kombat-compilations of the seventies and, of course, of the more recent ones. A must have for Stones lovers.

Anyway I have a question. Having given my original copy to my grandson I have recently purchased one at my fav record shop in the Florence flea market. It is a 1977 italian release (linea tre serie, rca manufactured, etc, runout and labels match) but in gatefold sleeve (different from the Argentina one. In this you have a photo of the band live ca 1973 credited "Foto per gentile conc. CIAO 2001" (photo courtesy of CIAO 2001, which was a popular teen music magazine in Italy late seventies early eighties). Is there a bug in the data of the first italian release or is it a different version? My previous one was not gatefold but I am not sure it was a 1977 italian release. Anyone has a clue?

For a little background on this LP:

Back in in the 70's, it was common for vinyl to be sold on tv commercials. Most of the time, it was either K-tel or greatest hits compilations. Low and behold, Allen B Klein decided to package a new RS greatest hits package, however, this would one would only be marketed directly to the tv market. The famous phrase used when selling records like these were, "Not sold in stores, so order now!!". I seeing the commercial for this album when I was a kid. I was too young to purchase this, however, if I was able to, then I'd definitely purchased a copy!

Also, when will you ever see/own a cover that features 6 Rolling Stone ?

Got one, but the label on the vinyl is more blueish :)

This is a great complication album of the Rolling Stones music. Unfortenly some of the records have been faulty. The hole has not been in the center in many of these records. I,m lucky having one that works fine. I listen mostly to record number 1. Sad thing that the song "Angie" is not in this record. The record would get 5 full stars otherwise.
