The 2014 remastered FLAC versions are a noticeable improvement over the 2010 reissue CD, and worth the upgrade.

No reason at all for the sickening prices of these 1994 clear, blue, and orange vinyl Superunknown LPs. There isn’t a shortage of these available. “Limited Edition” only refers to them being colored vinyl and not limited in quantity. There are numerous of all 3 colors always for sale. Great album, but not worth these prices. Most of these have been listed since Chris ed away and haven’t sold yet.

I bought both the double record 198gr and double CD reissues. Aside from the fact that this is one of my favourite albums of all time and one of the best sounding recordings, mixes and productions I know, I was rather disappointed with the reissues.
Both are completely over-mastered in my opinion. The volume level is maxed unnecessarily, which in the vinyl edition creates a considerable amount of distortion and interferes with the high treble. It's irrelevant that it was newly mastered from the original tapes, the new mastering was done badly. The CD is considerably better but not nearly as good as my original '94 CD. The original is quieter but when cranked sounds far bigger, has a higher sound ceiling and broader sound stage as well.
The reissue works great for my iTunes and my classic iPod which I use when on the go; simply because its louder and, as y'all know, iTunes/Phones have a very low output volume compared to the cool gear we had as kids in the early 90s ;-) -
Edited 8 years agoOk, usually i hate all these glorifications when an artist es. But when I realized Cornell had died, I had to relisten again. If I would be able to cry when hearing a record, I would have. One of the best albums of the 90s, it defines alternative rock. The strange thing is: Actually, I do not like all of their other recordings (I swear I have tried), even if this sounds like blasphemy to any Soundgarden fan. This is their moment of genius. Maybe it's overlong (thanks again, compact disc), but there is not a single bad song (save maybe the vinyl bonus track, I always lift the needle after Like Suicide). Truly monumental. RIP, Chris.
And, by the way, if anybody here has the 320 reissue from 2004 and wants to sell, please write me!!! -
A lesson in modern rock music. One of the best albums of 90's. ALL THE SONGS - ALL THE SONGS ARE PERFECT!

Hi!
Is there any mastering difference between the European Clear version (http://www.discogs.sitioby.com/Soundgarden-Superunknown/release/650255) and the Orange or Blue? (http://www.discogs.sitioby.com/Soundgarden-Superunknown/release/3050375 http://www.discogs.sitioby.com/Soundgarden-Superunknown/release/2421966)

Edited 19 years agoOne of my first CDs, I love the memories of this purchase (frankly, when my father read the lyrics of Kickstand and Black Hole Sun to me as a warning to what I bought..damn over-sensetive parents). Anyways, the whole album really shines and changes moods throughout the whole thing. I was never really a fan of Cornell's voice, but when he dims it down (way down) on awesome tracks like 4th of July and Fell On Black Days (to when he rocks out on Superunknown, Spoonman, and My Wave), you really understand what he's getting at. And Kim's guitar never sounded more solid and refined, with near perfect punches in every song. A classic 90's album full of hits and great trips away from grungy counterparts who cared less about their music than this band.

Edited 20 years agoThe pinnacle of this Seattle quartet's commercial success, it debuted at #1. How the heck could one describe all of the different styles found here? The dark pop of "Fell On Black Days"; the spooky balladry (really?) of "Black Hole Sun", the disc' monster anthem; the slow-burning raaaawk of "The Day I Tried To Live"....all the while, THAT voice by Chris Cornell slices above the fray; frankly, how could it not? I recall buying this when it was first out for $7.97 (US) on CD at Sun TV on US 224 - and it was available on cassette for $3 less. Those were the days.....? Anyone who wants definitive "alternative" records of the 1990s must have this standard included. It's SO out there.
