Edited 8 months agoHi folks, does anyone why the 2005 and 2009 pressings are so similar. Is there anything aside from the barcode that makes them in anyway different? I am about to buy a 2005 version (or at least the seller thinks it is) but wanted to see if anyone knows for sure the differences. Both the 2005 and 2009 appear to have either blue or brown labels. Anyone know which is which? The pictures on the discogs 2005 are confusing. Any and all thoughts welcome. The issue is that in the notes listed above for 2005 and 2009 "Golden" run offs appear the same.

After the debacle of the European 2017 pressing, I was on the hunt for the US Merge pressing. Why? It's a stunning album that deserves a good vinyl master. But does one exist? The European reissue sounds incredibly flat and compressed, like listening to a 128 kbps mp3.
Now, got my hands on the US Merge 2005 pressing with the 4-page lyric booklet, and I can say that this is a much better vinyl master. The LP has a nice dynamic range, and the instruments have some more space in the mix. Especially the guitars and strings sound really nice. It breathes a lot more. Although secretly I was hoping for a bit more. Especially the compressed drums are still a bit disappointing. No sonic revolution, which probably comes down to how the album was recorded and mixed. All in all, a pleasant listening experience. -
Edited one year agoWatch out kids! Tons of reissues selling here as 1st pressing! The original 2005 US press has this barcode: 036172955510
while the 2009 reissue has this: 673855025513
Don't be fooled/scammed .... -
Edited one year agoThe sound of this is unbelievable. Hard to put into words. Absolutely go with the original over the reissue.

Easily one of the best sounding pressings I own, and not just cause the album is excellent. Phenomenal sound, couldn't hear surface noise if I tried.

Fantastic sound depth and clarity. Very clean and quit press. An amazing album with an amazing mix and press. Get it if you can!

Are there any major differences between the original pressings (Merge or Rough Trade) and the 2009 Merge reissue?

OK, so I have the US vinyl in the Rough Trade sleeve...I bought it new in the UK. Does this make me unique or was there a mix up at the shop...?! Am I alone in this universe?

This pressing is generally good except theres definitely some inner groove distortion on the last tracks of each side. Pressing: 3.5/5. Music: All time classic/5
