This reissue set includes:
- a heavyweight 180gm vinyl LP pressing.
- an audio only DVD-Video (NTSC, Region 0) containing the album delivered as a 96kHz/24 bit LPCM stereo mix.
The LP is housed in a regular spined sleeve including an printed inner sleeve with lyrics.
Credits and Mark Hollis' handwritten lyrics are printed on the inner sleeve.
The DVD is housed in a cardboard sleeve, tucked inside the vinyl cover.
The DVD includes an additional track, "John Cope", originally released in 1988 as B-side of Talk Talk - I Believe In You.
A1 to A3 is a continuous track.
Audio only DVD: DVD 9 / region 0 / NTSC / aspect ratio: 16:9. 96khz/24bit LPCM stereo. Exempt from classification duration: 45.44.
Although the audio on this DVD has been transferred from the original analogue stereo masters at 96khz/24bit, the audio used to create the final mix was bounced down from 2" reel-to-reel 24-track tapes, to a Mitsubishi ProDigi 32-track digital recorder which only recorded at a sampling rate of 44.1khz. This means there is no content above 22khz on the original digital recordings and therefore all mixes / copies that followed would also be lacking in content above 22khz.

Amazing reissue. Quality pressing and beautiful album production with lots of detail and dynamics. I prefer this vinyl version to the High Res version. More warmth and emotion in the vocals while being very detailed on the instruments.

Edited 11 months agoExcellent sound. Little difference on my humble system to the ‘88 European DMM press, which, too, sounds marvelous. No issues with clicks and pops.
More valuable to note might be that the original came with an insert which contained information that is instead pressed on the inner sleeve, here.
Also, the artwork appears to be satured on the original than here, where it appears considerably duller and pixelated, which may have to do with digital printing, I don’t know.

The dynamic range and details are incredible, perfect for the music. This never let's me down. One of the best pressings in my collection.
One of my favorite and most special albums i've heard, too -

Also have a very pleasing copy of this pressing with almost zero noise. Extremely well mixed. IMHO, people should stop using Steely Dan Aja to test systems and use this recording instead. Such an incredibly balanced mix of silence, delicate ages, and satisfying crescendos in a timeless style that evokes Tim Buckley, jazz elements, spirituals, and rock. Definitely lives up to the post-rock masterpiece reputation that led me to pick it up.

This is such a great record! Makes me feel calm and satisfied while listening. Cleaned once with crappy Knosti, having no pops and clicks at all, just extremely nice deep sound. Excellent!
Equipment used: yes, for sure, but who cares? -
I must have lucked out compared to most of the people on here. I couldn’t believe how good this record sounded on my system and had to check twice if this was the copy that had gotten such a bad reception. Get this record if you haven’t already

Edited 2 years agoHello fellow lovers of this beautiful album,
If you are thinking of buying this reissue, be wary. No deep cleaning or wishful thinking in the world will remove the pops and clicks present throughout.
I had been warned by other listeners on this page. Now I’ll learn from my mistake (made the same bad decision in ordering the reissue of Hollis’s solo album).
Not worth it I'm afraid!

Edited 2 years agoAs a sublime masterpiece that grafted post-rock onto the family tree of music, this is an absolute "must own" for any serious collector. This pressing on the other hand is, unfortunately, a crap shoot. I had to return my first copy because it was too noisy. The replacement is better but still has a slight crackle here and there, which is not ideal for a record that uses silence to maximum effect. If you're not feeling lucky, dive into the record on CD or with a high-quality stream. No lover of music should overlook this record. Luckily, this version comes with an excellent DVD, so you will get a high-quality version even if the vinyl gods do not smile on you.
