This is my only picture disc, and I love the design. I previously only had one record with this spiral effect (the label on the Moon Music vinyl) but this one goes even further and fills the whole record.
Unfortunately, it's a picture disc.. so obviously it skips. On my copy it skips during A4, A7, B1 and B2. It is also slightly warped, due to being sealed inside of a book for 13 years. These are both things to consider before buying.
Thankfully I do not mind tracks A4 and A7 skipping as they are both included on the Live in Buenos Aires vinyl I own (albeit live versions, that I prefer)
I still enjoy it heaps, especially with all the cool junk that's included in the box. Stencils, stickers, a poster, CD, and a huge pop-up book). -
Edited one year agoBe honest, you didn’t buy this for the sound. Fun to listen to and to look at, both the disc and the book full of notes from the recording process and Chris’s lyrics work. It’s the best type of picture disc, where they actually had a cool design to apply instead of just repeating the cover. But it skips quite a bit especially in calmer tracks such as A5 and B2, and it just lacks that punch. The last track is barely listenable.
Also the outer sleeve is way too fragile, way too many detailed cutouts; but to its credit it will take the bullet in case of a liquid-related accident protecting everything inside (please don’t ask more 😭) Guess there goes the resale value, but all in all still one of my most prized items in my humble collection, and easily one of my favorite albums from Coldplay’s so-called “pop” era 🌀🦋 -
Audio was mixed/edited so poorly prior to pressing with all of the instrument sounds turned up to the max, resulting in vocals being totally overpowered and drowned out + album was pressed on a friggin' noisy picture disc = an awful listening experience. Seriously makes me cringe. Only listened to 3 songs since I bought this box set 9 months ago. What makes me cringe even more is that this could have gone so differently. It could have been mixed and prepared with patience, attention,, and skill and they could have pressed it on Virgin vinyl, and the experience could have been really great. I'd even settle for run of the mill non-virgin black vinyl, anything but a picture disc. They could have sold so many more records if not for the terrible reviews of the pressing all over the internet. This was a fail. Everything else in the box is cool, but kind of useless considering the quality of the pressing inside. But... I don't know what I need those stencils for. K. Done.

My vinyl from this box has quite a bit of noise through the whole experience. The vinyl is also quite warped. Think this may have to do with the fact that its packaged inside the book and pressed against the cd. There is also some level issues Im experiencing. Seems to adjust volume on vocals noticeably in the middle of a track. This all could be a result of the warp. Not sure if anyone else has experienced this. With that said, the packaging is amazing and I love Coldplay so much!
