Very nice sounding cut but it's approximately 1.8% slow.
I adjusted my Technics pitch and it sounds fantastic.

The pressing is of good quality and the playback is free of defects. The label on Side A is off center but the pressing itself isn't. The jacket is thick and the disc comes in a high quality poly inner sleeve.
As for the music, it sounds nearly identical to the 2001 mono CD remaster, which is my baseline for this album. It's hard to tell, but I think the bass might be further back in the mix here than on the CD, which annoys me a little bit. I was hoping for a bit more musicality and warmth from this vinyl release, but I can't hear many discernible differences between the two. It's good, but if I have opportunity to get a different pressing, I will.

God damn this sounds incredible. I always forget Trane and Art are in the band. A truly brilliant classic.

Edited 6 months agoExcellent reissue. I have zero interest in comparing it to the AP or the ERC snake oil - this is a fantastic copy that the average jazz listener will get a lifetime of enjoyment from. Let the the audiofools argue about what is the best version - just get this and be happy.
Sounds great and no manufacturing defects.
Plus…….its Monk! -

Edited 6 months agoThe AP 2024 version from KPG wins this shootout, for me. The AP has much more presence and dynamic clarity; instruments feel solid, whereas on the OJC everything is slightly ethereal and lacking weight in comparison. The AP also has better 3D with more air around and between the instruments. The AP also has superior sleeve and artwork. But this is still a very nice version.
