Pretty disappointing that this isn’t a gatefold. That’s definitely part of the reason I pay the for the Tone Poet series. I really hope this isn’t the start of Blue Note cutting corners.

I love this album specially among McCoy’s discography. The pressing quality is also top notch as it does.

Edited one year agoGreat record, great pressing and NO gatefold, I hate gatefolds because they need too much space. And I don't want to watch fotos, I just want the music. And my critic on Alice Coltrane is proofed here, she fucks up the time with the first notes she plays and all her solo is some glissando, I think I can play this better. Why does anybody care about her, why she has such a standing I don't get. She can not play music, she can not play Jazz, she has no timing, she has no phrasing, all she has is an instrument. On the other side Wayne Shorter kills here, on the soprano and the tenor, he is totally loose, absolutely great.

Fantastic record, the saxophone playing is sublime and inspired when improvising on these great compositions by McCoy Tyner. Alice Coltrane adds her subtle harp playing sporadically. Great rhythm section of course with Elvin Jones and Ron Carter! Musically a top release of 2023 for me.

Superb album and flawless pressing. I actually do think the the non-gatefold jackets in the tone poet series (and e.g AP) do look really good, and I might even prefer them.
-
This is divine, shame its not gatefold (guess there was no session photography at Van Gelders on this one) lovely essay on the back cover. Do not miss this wonderful Tone Poet!
-
perfect record perfect pressing no notes this is what scientists call "money well spent." god bless it

Edited one year agoWhoa! What a masterpiece. I mean typical tone poet quality here but matched with an incredible release. Definitely one of my favorite recent reissues.
-
Another great sounding Tone Poet reissue. Unfortunately my copy is being returned for a replacement due to a pressing defect on the first track of side one. The record should not have ed quality control. However it's a great McCoy Tyner album, beautifully remastered.
