The world is an aquarium; I see everything close up and yet cut off, made of some other substance;
I keep falling outside myself, without dizziness, without blur, into precision

Excellent pressing, beefy, clear and articulate. Musically, one of the best pop records of the last ten years.

This is an incredibly dynamic record. I feel like this album is a sleeper or under rated for way too many. Fans of Radiohead , Nick drake , the kinks, and even Pink Floyd should take a listen.

Edited one year agoYes, fantastic album. Lady Grey is a lovely song, but its chorus melody sure does lean heavily on City Sickness by The Tindersticks, the latter being the far superior song.

Edited one year agoThis is the best album of 2023, I don't think anything is going to top it. It's also one of the best looking records of the year, absolutely gorgeous. Luckily it sounds as good as it looks.
Getting new music from the Clientele this late in the game is a gift in and of itself, but the way they continue to top themselves and push for new sounds and possibilities while still being effortlessly themselves is truly special. Some of the best we've got and ever will have! -
Edited one year agoThe Clientele is best when they're The Clientele. That being said, the unnecessary spoken word
tracks / "drum -n- bass" tracks sound forced at best. "The Violet Hour" remains an absolute masterpiece, and this one has some very, very good material; however, tracks like "My Childhood", and definitely "Garden Eye Mantra" (even "Dying In May") just feel out of place. The pressing itself? Mine arrived warped, but our friends at Merge were quick to send me some replacement discs that were slightly sibilant, yet enjoyable.

Another beautiful slab of pastoral psychedelia from The Clientele. The record is very well produced and any fan of their previous work should be excited to add this to their collection immediately. Comparatively, it continues similar themes explored on their last album, both lyrically and musically. More beautiful segues/interludes by Keen that perfectly accent the wistfully melancholic nostalgia fever dreams of MacLean and their lush compositions. I highly recommend catching them on their current tour if you can (Late Summer 2023), as they masterfully condense the overall atmosphere to their traditional three-piece.

Stunning Album !!!! I must agree that this is their best album to date. So many different soundscapes to take in. A thoroughly enjoyable experience from first track to last. Top 10 of 2023.

Never heard of this band before this album dropped. Heard it on Apple Music and thought this would potentially sound fantastic on vinyl. Picked up this pressing and was right. Vinyl looks cool and is quiet and dynamic. Great album.
