Just went back into the archive and listening for the first time in maybe 15 years to this first press only having spun it a couple of times. It should essentially be a M/NM copy but I'm shocked to see a few light marks on both sides of the vinyl. Album plays a beaut, the odd crackle on the voice but apart from that it's super quiet and clean. Curious if anyone else has this original press with the same marks and wee crackle... as I'm then thinking it could be from the factory..? Sylvian rules. X

HELLO! Ahead of the vinyl reissue, can anyone say how this pressing was? Maybe it'll be a new master for the re-press but it'd be good to know what this version actually sounded like (noisey, clear etc etc). Thank you.

Edited 4 years agoJust compare THIS to Nine Horses "Snow Borne sorrow" featuring Jansen, Friedmann & Sylvian. In Blemish, David Sylvian obviously lost his way in experimentation whereas in "Snow Borne Sorrow", we have a real feat of an achievement : both poetry and beautiful melodies. So come on you, music experts, come to your senses : this is no good !

It's an absolute masterpiece in my opinion and easily in the top 10 released since 2000.
Just wish someone would reissue on vinyl as the prices are steep as someone else noted -
Quite sure people who constantly complain about Sylvian "not knowing how to write a decent tune" do not understand this type of music, and probably doubly fail to understand it probably isn't for them rather than it being him who has apparently lost it. Sylvian experimented with out of the box methods with stuff like Brilliant Trees and Orpheus, so I fail to see how him continuing to do so in an entirely different context with stuff like Blemish and Manafon is any different.

I loved David Sylvian music, I still do, but my love ends with "Secrets Of The Beehive", after that (in my opinion) he slowly started to lose the power of writing a decent tune...
"Blemish" to me is musical nonsense, such irritating sounds, you keep hoping that he'll sing a line with a tiny bit of melody but no, instead of writing beautiful songs on his own fascinating way, all that we're left with is disturbing cacophony that makes me want to cry, but mine are not tears of joy like when I hear "Brilliant Trees" or "Before the Bullfight"...
I rather play "Taking the Veil" or "Orpheus" so that the world outside my window seems like a better place... -
Brutal prices for an amazing album, timeless and unclassifiable music from masters of their instruments.
