Record sounds good, with dirty riffs and clear acoustic parts. Album is dirty itself but that was a plan I hope. That’s a place where young Slayer meets adult Radiohead.
-
This press is easily one of the worst sounding in my entire collection. It's a shame because it's one of their best albums. Desperately needs remixing/remastering.
-
A great example of not so brilliant mastering. Lacks the punch in lows, noticeably with the drums and the bass! Leads to a flatter profile and the kick drums have 0 depth.
Even a tube pre and bass gain made it sound slightly worse..
Took a couple of play throughs to get comfortable.
Must have for any Slipknot fan but don’t expect the same quality mastering as on IOWA. -
Probably my least favorite slipknot record beside the end so far the songs just aren’t the best and why isn’t scream and any of the pressings that my favorite song off of this record great pressing though so can the mad about thay

I heard back along time to get this reissue because of the negative reviews, it actually sounds very good, I think some of the guitars were just recorded to sound muddy, the dynamics of the drums and samples on this is really great, pretty impressed.. farrrr
r from a bad sounding lp -
Oof, everyone here is correct. The guitars and vocals have some bite, but the bass is lacking and the the kick drum is laughable - it sounds like dropping slices of cheese on a granite countertop. Too bad, because Joey Jordison is key to the sound of this era of Slipknot. At least it can sit on my shelf?

From a listener of the original day one release CD for 18 years now and various other digital variants of this album, the vinyl is still better to my ears. It has that punch and Analogue "simulation" you get from it literally playing on an analogue format (Album recorded digitally, unlike IOWA and Slipknot self titled). Worth the purchase for the big format art, sleeves etc if you're a fan. Play it on a decent system and crank it load. I also have the 2014 clear release but I never opened it (so glad now $$$$ lol), so I can't say if this sounds better or not, I doubt it would sound better though, you could hope it was the same. Quick tip, many of the releases over the last year of many albums, if they have a EU and US release separately, try get the EU pressings. For whitherever reason that Czech plant seems to be doing a better job then the shite coming from the US - Tool Fear Inoculum pressings comes to mind.
