Edited 3 years agoThis record was on my list to find and an older copy in reasonable condition showed up, so I snagged it. I saw them in concert on this tour way back when, One of my very first concerts.
Triumph's studio sound conjures that same live energy in spades. The guitar tone is huge and there are ripping solos a'plenty. Rik and Gil's alternating vocals are powerful and compelling. The musicianship and execution is phenomenal.
My pressing is powerful and pretty clean. No complaints. -
This album is such a good time. Despite a lot of serious lyrical themes, it's still a party to listen to. Super tight playing and memorable songwriting. It's scratches a number of stylistic itches that I may have; from hard rock to early heavy metal to prog. On past Triumph albums, notably Just a Game, I felt some of the guitar tone and especially soloing borrowed a bit too much from another Canadian legend, Alex Lifeson, but the tone is true Triumph on here.
I've only ever heard the U.S. black label RCA pressings (1 of which I grabbed today in a $1 section), and it's a really killer sound. Heavy yet well defined for the most part. Badass drum sound.
