Edited 2 years agoA classic album but this pressing doesn’t really do it justice. Is it a compressed digital source? I don’t want to be pompous and I’m no sound engineer but it must be something like that. It just sounds flat and lifeless. The layered vocals sound flattened together and there is no sting from the guitar or cymbals at the high end. The end result is an album that has no excitement. Where I it being thrilling music on this version it sounds dull. I’m going to look for an original pressing to compare

This pressing doesn’t quite hit the mark. My copy was a bit warped causing an audible hump for the first quarter of side A, both sides had a slight misprinting causing some tone arm waggle and slight sound warping noticeable on long held notes, there were light ticks and crackles throughout even after an air compressor blow off, and the sound quality deteriorated around the halfway point on each side and got worse toward the centers. The first half of each side sounded pretty good, so this pressing did have potential. But, it was, sadly, not manufactured well enough to be great.

OK, let's talk about this pressing! There are ups and downs about it. It's very dynamic, it has a nice deep bottom and quite a decent range and the highs are a bit sacrified. It's quieter than the original pressing, so the background noise will depend on your turntable setup and quality. It doesn't have that fantastic photo sleeve inside, but besides that it's really ok!

I gave my early pressing to my son after buying this reissue to keep. Contrary to some experiences with this, I think it actually stands up pretty well in comparison. Maybe it feels a little restricted on the top end in a few spots but overall I think it's a dynamic pressing with a solid bottom and good range. Makes the old Kenwood tank of a turntable happy either way.

Edited 5 years agoNice pressing, IMO. When compared to Ultra HD mp3 (from Amazon Music) the sound is pretty accurate. High quality embossed cover. One curious thing: one of the vinyl's labels is an artwork, another lists all the tracks. I'm used to seeing artworks like this on the A-side but here it's on the B-side (although there were exceptions, including this record). Unless you pay attention to tiny labels in script font (This Side/The Other Side) on the list of tracks, 50/50 chance you will play the record from the middle.

I'm with the others, there's no depth to this pressing, I kept going up with the volume to get some soundstage or separation but nothing. Even my wife noticed it quickly. This is a flat pressing

The top end is very restricted. I Am not sure why but it is the only version I own on vinyl. I have it on DVD audio which has better high end definition. The cymbals on this pressing sound muffled. Very disappointing. It is hard to listen to at all.

Bad quality vinyl. Lots of background noise. Bought it sealed, record was heavily scuffed on both sides (looks like something you'd pick up for a buck at thrift store), poorly trimmed disc edges. My original 1976 copy of "A Day At The Races", that I bought used on garage sale years ago, looks and sounds better. Sent it back for replacement - second one worse than the first one! Replaced it again - same problem.
-
Terrible version. My original scratched version is better, and the 2015 Virgin EMI is a lot better. Avoid this
