I find it a bit weird that an instrumental "typical b-side" "Tiger Tiger" would be included on the album instead of the number 1 hit "Is There Something I Should Know"

I’d say this is the weakest of DD’s first three albums. Rio is better and the self-title debut is much better, in my view. It’s also a far-inferior sounding recording than either of their first two albums, which sound superb (comparing first U.K. pressing for all).

Still, it contains three singles so it’s probably worth having for that reason. It’s just that the rest of the album isn’t up to the same standard.

Brilliant album. Wtf is this genre anyway, singles included? New.wave/House/Alternative.rock pop disco masterpiece. No-one before or after succeeded in sounding so weird, unique and recognizable with that vocals. Btw I hated that sound b4, now I realize it was just genius.

It's my favourite album from them. "Duran Duran" was the beginning, "Rio" was the confirmation (but still with old songs even though some of them were very good "The Chauffeur" etc) but this was really new when it came out. It has less diversity in styles than "Rio", all songs sound kinda the same but this unity of sound is what I especially like about it and except for the instrumental I don't care for, all the other tracks are brillant. Plus it's "The Reflex" that really made them become superstars worldwide and not only just in England or in the United States.

I think this is a great album that perfectly captures the times. The 80's started getting really weird and artsy from '82 to '86, and lots of bands just got really experimental with the mash-up of influences going on. Blue Moon on Monday to me is their best hit from the 80s, with it's great melodic catch. Everyone can trust their own ears but, I'm liking appreciating the stranger stuff these days. The whole album has their great RnB disco influenced solid rhythm section, but takes it further into 80s electronic with dominant synth lines. There are some weird songs, and as a musician I find them interesting in their own experimental right, and don't think they need to conform to nice synth/pop rock formulas. The fact that they made some of these strange songs so catchy is pretty amazing to me. The cd has one of coolest instrumental synth bonus tracks I've heard from the 80s. And that weirdo video for 'Union of the Snake' is pretty revealing just how far out artsy they were getting, and is just awesome!

Duran Duran third album not the same success as rio but has some well known tracks such as the reflex and union of the snake its a 3 and a half star in my opinion
