You could argue that "Legendary" is a little too bold statement to be part of a live album title but, by the time that Bruce shouts: "I can't go on like this! I'm thirty years old!" near the end of a face-melting rendition of the rock & roll classic "Quarter To Three" while Stevie Van Zandt looks back towards an earthquake-generating Max Weinberg with a broken string hanging from his guitar's machine head, you are sure you have witnessed an unstoppable and legendary rock n' roll force at the height of their powers unfolding in front of your eyes.
Because that's what Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band were by the end of the seventies: legend on the making.
And the pure raw energy and joy (so funny to see Bruce being chased by his guitar technician trying to plug his guitar back) coming out of the stage in these live performances, part of the MUSE - Musicians United for Safe Energy- concerts (Jackson Browne's initiative to tackle nuclear energy risks), is something to be behold, a two-night demolishing setlist formed primarily by two of Springsteen's discography main staples: "Born To Run" and "Darkness At The Edge Of Town" and even daring a dip into the near future through "The River" and "Sherry Darling", still to be released one year in the future, unleashed here on an audience that was unaware that they were witnessing history on the making.
"The Promised Land", "Badlands", "Thunder Road", "Rosalita", "Born To Run" and, mostly, my personal favourite "Jungleland" and Clarence Clemons' saxophone solo for eternity are here taken into their natural live environment and lifted to the Olympus of rock n' roll once more.
Together with the "Hammersmith Odeon '75" recording, this impressive collection of songs helps to , should anyone have forgotten, why Bruce and The E Street Band are living legends.
They worked hard to achieve that status, and here you can taste their sweat, blood... and tears of joy while living the Rock N' Roll dream. -
Sounds pretty good. It’s a great show lots of energy as you would expect from Bruce. Ticket stub is a nice touch.
