In their later years, Everything But the Girl became the torchbearers for emotive house, and LULLABY OF CLUBLAND was one of the stronger tracks off their TEMPERAMENTAL album. The "Original Mix" lays it all out: the funky bass, the solid beat, and Tracey Thorn's aching vocals. Markus Schulz offers three remixes: his "Renaissance Vocal" adds a trance-y gloss to the original, while his "Virus Remix" goes all in with the techno vibe and the "Tribal Journey" goes... well, tribal with the drums. Matty Heilbronn also provides three mixes, with his "II Deep Club Mix" emphasizing the heavy bass and drums but that eventually provides room for Thorn to enter (which the "Deep Dub" also does, but to a lesser extent). His "Soulflower Instrumental" goes slightly more funky with the bongos and results in a more upbeat track. But of these mixes, go for Ben Watt himself, whose coolly stripped-down "Summer Storm Remix" manages to bring out the heartbreak lingering in the lyrics.
