"Be There (9 Years Edit)" is a pleasant slice of menacing haunted house with ghostly keyboard subbass reminiscent of 90's deep techno (ie. Schatrax' Mispent Years or Overcome), elegant and tense, yet perhaps a tad too clean/cheesy (not a bad thing here though). Sonically twisted dark male vocals complete the spooky atmosphere.
In fact it's quite funny and telling that someone like Rui Da Silva, who comes straight from the progressive/tribal/"cheesy" side of house (at least in the last 10 years), is now delivering the kind of sound that can easily be played by minimal or techno jocks, but also still ed by his "big room" house fellows in search for a "dark side of dance" moment a la early Murk with modern sound production.
I guess this kind of record perfectly illustrates the global blurring of genres and frontiers in dance music these days.
