Cool looking vinyl but not so great sounding. Lots of surface noise even after hypersonic wet cleaning. Love the soundtrack. Love the movie. Don’t love this pressing.

Edited 2 years agoThis is probably closer to a 3.5 than it is to a 3 for me, but the site does not allow for half ratings, and the poor quality of the jacket breaks the tie. I love this movie. I love Edward Wright. So much so that I can forget how much I hate Michael Cera. For anyone who has read the graphic novels, you know the movie is about as close as it can be to achieving what is on the page. The soundtrack is essentially perfect in of song choice, and performance. I would go see Sex Bomb-Omb in concert, if that were possible. The colored vinyl is just like Ramona's hair. As cool as everything is conceptually and appearance-wise...the actual records are a bit lacking. Cleary, this should have been a 2LP release (and given how much Ramona changes her hair, having different colored vinyls would have been totally keeping with that theme). The sonics, while clear and polished, are a bit "dull" and boring. It's just sort of wimpy. There's nothing bad about it, but there really isn't anything great about it either.

Edited 2 years agoMy copy has virtually no surface noise, but the sound quality is lacking in certain points. Most of the songs sound a little compressed. I agree with the other collectors; I wish these companies would spend a little more money and efforr into making the jackets sturdy and high quality, and I wish they'd stop giving us the cheap sleeves that contain debris and give your LP surface scratches.

I like the record itself but for the repress it could be better - vinyl is very thin, sleeve could be more special. My magenta copy sounds good with not-so-cool set up under 300€, so cannot complain on the actual quality. Otherwise good soundtrack, if you can get it under 20€, everything else is only fan option.

Mine finally arrived today I gather stock was an issue in the UK.
First off the cover is nothing special, very flimsy cardboard more like what you'd get with a 12" single. The inner sleeve is the nasty cheap paper type that goes straight in the bin.
The record its self was fairly free of factory dirt, pretty straight and a nice deep transparent blue.
I didn't experience much of the surface noise I've seen others mention. It is very quiet for a cheaply manufactured coloured vinyl. The audio is good but a bit compressed, I had to tweak the tone controls to liven it up. I can imagine it not sounding so great on a budget system. It's a mixed bag of artists so the mastering differs, luckily the best sounding tracks are the ones I'm most interested in. Black Sheep in particular was quite good.
I think they tried to squeeze too much onto one record. This really needed to be a quality double LP giving the bass more of a chance and just more life over all. A nice gatefold cover would also have been appreciated. Like most of the other releases they didn't really do much for the fans of the movie here. I would of paid a bit more for a better release for sure.
