A recording of Coil's live performance as Time Machines at the Royal Festival Hall in London on April 2nd, 2000. Available as a bonus disc with the mail order copies of "Musick To Play In The Dark Vol. 2", this was later re-issued as disc 1 of "Live One". It is packaged in a simple white envelope sleeve, and some copies are signed by John Balance, Peter Christopherson, and/or Thighpaulsandra.
The same catalog number was also used for Coil's "Constant Shallowness Leads To Evil" CD which was released later in 2000.

Edited 9 years agoListening to The Cosmic Jokers' Gilles Zeitschiff album (see http://www.discogs.sitioby.com/Sternenmädchen-Gilles-Zeitschiff/master/1287), I have become convinced that it was a big influence on the direction of Coil's Time Machines project and in particular the music showcased on this release. The heavily-treated female spoken word parts on 'Circulating' especially, to me, bear a striking similarity.
I could of course be wrong, but thematically and musically the parallels seem too numerous to be coincidental. Give it a listen if you're not already familiar with it - it's an excellent album in its own right.
This Coil album will always hold a very special place in my heart as I was lucky enough to be there that magickal night at Cornucopea on The South Bank. I couldn't figure out at the time how they were able to provide me with a recording of the night's performance as I left - swift work! -
where's the cover? there isn't one.
this thing is something else entirely. parts of it came from time machines, parts of it only occur here, all of it is organized in a way that is contextually local. you want to conceive of yourself as floating through time when the record is playing...
the album begins in some sort of purgatory, a path into some alternate reality or perhaps a trip down the rabbit hole. a steady, mechanical sound keeps space-time moving beneath you while events fly by you in weird and wonderful ways. you end up in some circular quadrant of the universe - one inhabited by the queen of the circulating library, who lectures you on many things in between displays of fireworks. you are let off that merry-go-round and thrown into perpetual turbulence, perhaps eventually subsumed into the birth of a new star.
the literary references are to aleister crowley, if you are impressed by such things. the only pre-requisite, however, is experience with psychedelics.
i do not believe that this particular record is for sale or ever was except on one specific tour. i would highly recommend the album as a great . -
Edited 20 years agoYou really had to be there .no record can do justice to one of the best gigs ever. just wish i'd enhanced the experience.Still, this is a superb cd to PLAY LOUD.
