This is a compilation in name only. Every track is written by Kim, Don, and Paul, and most of the artists are exclusive to this release; making this more or less the first Spice Barons album... And what an album it is! If you like Future Perfect State, Lunar Phase, and the From Here to Tranquility series, you will not be disappointed with UFA. To my ears, this is the sound Silent records does best. Don't let this one slip under the radar! -
A lovely collection overall but Patternclear’s Tundra is my favourite. Shimmery and squelchy at the same time.

Edited 4 years agoTops compilation from a legendary US electronica label a sort of rarity as they released a few avant/dark/drone artists(PGR etc) and compilations in their catalog with this a complete polar opposite of dark or droney. Light, airy, crisp cool bleep and atmospheric ambient "techno" with a focus on slower rhythms and softened edge synth sounds with some natural environments thrown in for good measure. A go to cd for years. One of the better Silent compilations next to of course their legendary From Here To Tranquility series which stand on their own top merit of the then era of pioneering ambient electronic labels.
