Edited 4 years agoThis LP "Come Clean" is an excellent combination of rock, industrial and breakbeat with a gothic touch. It shakes your head until the last track. "Chinese Burn" is arguably the most powerful song from this CD, although "Cotton Candy" could not have been more wrongly named.
"Chinese Burn", "Cotton Candy" and "Dog Bone" can almost be described as big beat tunes since their respective beat patterns are very similar to this style. As a matter of fact, "Lunatic Calm" produced a remix of "Chinese Burn" that is very faithful to the original track, hence very banging.
"Dirty High" and "Come Clean" are arguably the most raw sounding tracks there.
On the other hand, the second half sounds more relaxed with less agressive ambiences. I particularly love the catchy loop of "Killer Baby" that matches perfectly the melancholic guitar sounds and the legendary voice of Toni Halliday. "Beyond Reach" and "Something Familiar" also feature a laid-back, somewhat sexy vibe.
As I read somewhere else, these are beautiful sounds for beautiful minds. Sexy, sinister, agressive and badass at the same time.
If you're looking for cool combinations of rock and electronic, then this album is definitely for you. Bands like Garbage, Fear Factory and Hardknox are also worth a listen.
To finish, the beginning of "Coming Up Roses" uses the same sample as Meat Beat Manifesto's "Cancer" from their "Subliminal Sandwich" album.
