What the hell were they thinking! They have, effectively, de-livened this recording. At best, it sounds like the band is playing in a lounge somewhere quiet, at worst you can't tell they are playing in front of a live audience at all. If that was the point, they succeeded! Why do this to a live album though? They took out much of the echo from the drums (not a bad idea in premise) but the result is NOT better than the original, they somehow ruined the sound in the process. Obviously there are good aspects to the remaster ... you can hear the backing vocals and vocal harmonies more clearly and I noticed some other good stuff but my overall impression is one of disappointment.
It looks like I'm sticking to the 2016 reissue and adding about 4 to 6DB to the levels in my trusty hard limiter to roughly reach the same levels as this. At least I can add the tracks that weren't included in the 2016 reissue from this, they don't have any drums!
