My copy of this seminal record sounds okay....A bit of sibilance on the higher end, but overall not bad. I only had this record on CD for many years, and honestly think the CD sounds better. Fuller, richer, (fitter, happier) and especially the low end is so much better on the CD. I listen to both depending on my mood. If I want to avoid getting up every 15 minutes to flip the record, I listen to the CD.

i never like to disparage a record on here as being a "bad pressing," as i often find people have too much to complain about, but seriously you cannot play this copy loud without it distorting to all hell. i've had this copy for years and i honestly think the low quality of it has made me like this album less, which is a damn shame. would love to obtain a different pressing someday, would recommend steering clear of this one :/

Somehow I bought this fantastic album back around 2010, opened it up and looked at the pretty art, but then didn't get around to listening to it until today. One of those situations where I said "I'll do it tomorrow" and tomorrow never came.

Just picked up this pressing semi-cheap in the wild and found it to sound godawful. Full wet clean/vac, no help. Will try ultrasonic next but not sure that’ll fix it. Sounds like an over compressed re-cut DMM. 👎👎👎

I bought my copy in 2008. Sounds fantastic. No surface or distortion. It's got good definition and soaring highs. Mixed well especially during subterranean. Quiet.

Seems like I got one of the not-so-great pressings. No surface noise to speak of, the vinyl itself is pretty clean, but it sounds compressed and lacking in dynamics (the vocal on Karma Police in particular sounds almost muffled). Not much of a soundstage to speak of. Which would all suggest it's more of a mastering issue? YMMV I guess.

At first I was agreeing with people saying it had bad top end distortion and thought I had a bad copy, but then gave it a thorough wet cleaning and it sounds way better. I also noticed that before cleaning, the needle had a bunch of buildup on it halfway through a side.
So, at least in some cases, it appears that these records left the factory with some kind of residue, and if you don't clean it off it sounds like trash. Some people have reported that cleaning didn't help them, but if you buy a copy and it sounds bad that's the first thing I'd try.
After the cleaning my copy sounds quite good. Pitch quiet, no top end distortion. A night and day difference from the first playing. -
I am so disappointed with this. Just picked up a near mint copy and it sounds like total shit. One of my favorite albums of all time, I think I’ll just spin the cd. Wtf?
