What can I say: It's a rare find and it is a joy to listen to. I hope those tapes are found so everyone can own it.
-
sadly bought mine in a thrift store but it has 2 record 2s inside and no record 1, typical, thought I'd bagged a rarity
-
I bought this at Tower Records in Boston right when it came out and it still sounds good almost 30 years later!
-
Yeah so happy to have this pressing. Just a perfect sound and mix for the style of the band and these tunes. Cost a pretty penny but it’s stunning.

Just picked up a 1st press in VG+ condition at a local record shop. It really is a great pressing. I also have August in 45rpm from Acoustic Sounds and have to say this gets really close to it. Punchy bass, extended highs, vocals sound present and great, no sibilance on my pressing. So happy to have walked upon this. I’ve been looking for a copy for a while.

Bought this new upon release, I believe it cost me $15 and I had to special-order it. I didn't own any vinyl back then, but Adam made a point of saying they sequenced the album with vinyl in mind, and I was a HUGE fan so it felt like a worthy investment.
Amazingly enough, I kept it in mint shape through several moves... and now, decades later, I have a decent TT and setup and can enjoy their best album in the best possible sound quality.
If you're ANY kind of fan of this album, trust me. You NEED to buy this pressing before prices get even higher. I own quite a few original 90s pressings now--all the original Pearl Jams, all the original Smashing Pumpkins, plus assorted others--and this is probably the best one for sound quality. (The original promo of NIN's Downward Spiral might be better, different genre obviously.) And there's no way they can go back to the original tapes and cut another AAA plating now. So that's my advice: Get this now, keep it clean, play it on a decent table with a decent cart, and enjoy. -
Just want to chime in and add that the original pressing is the one and only pressing of this album worth owning. We know the tapes are lost for this album so this will always be the best version to own. Grab it before it’s too late.

Edited 3 years agoI got the original 1996 pressing, sealed. It's not cheap but I wanted to go with everything I read and see if this really was a great pressing. Caveat - I have NOT heard the new green remaster. This is the only one I've heard.
First, I played this on an AT-LP60XBT, direct line out to my Onkyo receiver. I also tried it phono to the Phono input. Both ways it sounded like a hot mic on Adam, rough and sibilant. Just not good. I was deflated.
However, I was planning on upgrading my system already. I got a Fluance RT82 and Pro-Ject amp (temporarily while waiting for my Schiit Mani to get here) to my receiver. I can say it's night and day. So much clarity and the bass is excellent.
So my conclusion is: This is a great album to listen to if you have a decent setup. If you have a beginner's stylus/amp do not buy this, or wait until you have a better setup.
I will say if you are buying this sealed in 2021, it will almost certainly be warped. Mine is very warped and needs a weight and a good counterbalance (1.8 on the OM10) to get it to not skip. -
Edited 3 years agoThis pressing sounds phenomenal. Was a little skeptical based off the couple of reviews here but it sounds great. Recommend this one 100%! It is better than the green pressing (limited ed.) version.
