Edited 19 years agoWhy the h*ll is this cd only 40 minutes long?! A cd normally have the capacity to have 80 minutes music, so why did Radiohead only use the half? It is for sure a mystery...
Oh well, enough with the criticism. Even if I'm missing at least 15 minutes music, I can't say anything else than the fact that this is one of the best live-albums I've ever heard! All the tracks, except for "True love waits", are written during their experimental era. And all of these tracks sounds sooooo much better live!
Track #1, "The National Anthem", is the perfect opener. The ultra-cool bass, Thom Yorkes staccato-voice and all these beautiful sweeping melodies puts into the right mood! It's like Pink Floyd of 21th century!
Next track, "I might be wrong", is kind of the same style as track #1. You just feel really cool while listening to this track.
"Morning bell" is the version from "Kid A" which is a smooth chilling-song. At least the first three minutes. The last minute, though, is nothing but WILD!
Next up is the biggest surprise on the album. "Like spinning plates" was on "Amnesiac" one of the most experimental tracks, sounding like the whole song was backwards. But on this album, it is a pure Radiohead-ballad. A piano, Thom's lovely voice. Nothing more...Awesome!
The tempo rises a lot with the next track: "Idioteque". A mix of breakbeat-like beats, really hunting vocals from Thom and an ambient-sounding melody makes this song really unique. A big plus to the wild audience who lift up the song a few levels...
"Everything's in it's right place" is three and a half minute longer here than on "Kid A". Those minutes are filled with some really weird, psychedelic sounds that makes the comparisson to Pink Floyd even better! Mmmmm...
Track #7, "Dollars and cents", is also one of those feeling-so-so-so-cool-tunes, just a little bit slower that #1 and #2. Still great, even though I'd love to hear some more experimenting on this track.
And finally, the highlight: "True love waits". Written during their "OK Computer"-era this is the first time it's on an official release. Like "Like spinning plates" this is a classic Radiohead-ballad. And I must say that this might be the best of all! 'Touching' is the right word for sure!
Great finish on a great album! But your next live-album should be at least one hour long, Radiohead! =)
