UNKNOWN EXCEPTION brings together a number of tracks from Andy Stott's extensive 12" releases, and it's good to have them in one place for their rumbling-bass beauty. "Fear of Heights," for instance, is all about the dub techno throb, and "Bad Landing" continues that vibe, adding in a nice organ line to keep things fresh. The bass on "Handle With Care" is as thick as fog, while "Long Drive" goes in a more Detroit direction. "Massacre" gets back into dub techno, but the low and slow "See In Me" starts venturing in new paths. "Fine Metallic Dollar" has him working with metallic tones, but "Hostile" is a more straight-up techno track, and the twinkling tech-house of "Replace" brings an upbeat vibe. A fine collection of his works.
