In my top three albums of all time -- honestly can't think of another that tops it so maybe my number one. The storytelling through the songs feels like I'm living his emotions and experiences. This is the album that got me into Tyler as a musician and I never get tired of listening to it. One of my few no-skip albums.

Edited 7 months agoWalmart press sounds very good, but there is some surface noise to it. almost like air is ing through the needle.. other than that it’s a good album. -
Bad pressing. Warped vinyl that makes my tonearm bounce up and down on the vinyl. Low level/quiet mastering. I have to crank up my amp. Fantastic artist and songs but shitty record production. Shame.

This one says it’s been put out by Columbia records while my copy says it’s from Sony records, don’t know why but this album is still one of Tyler’s best. My copy also sounds great :) -

Further cementing his status as rap auteur, Tyler pulls some great tricks in IGOR, matching his refined production style to a host of guest vocalists, including Solange, La Roux, Slowthai and Kanye. Although called out for his homophobic slurs in the past, there is an authentic queerness to Tyler’s recent work that suggests an artist more in touch with himself than ever before.

A breath of fresh air which I almost never picked up because I thought the days of "kill people, burn shit, fuck school" was over. Well, they may be, but at least on "Igor" Tyler shows more of his rapping chops than on "Flower Boy" - which to me was a disparaging left turn for one of hip-hop's most poignant voices today. This left turn made more sense, the singing finally making more sense with the likes of Charlie Wilson, Pharell, and Santigold on this record. "Igor" is like "Cherry Bomb" 's "Find Your Wings" on steroids. The album's narrative is "Sarah" from "Bastard" meets "IFHY" off "Wolf". It's just "odd" that Tyler had to pitch up his voice on almost every song on this record to complete his vision, but that choice almost made a new separate group out of all of Tyler's vocal inflections. A pity for the mix on "Puppet" though, I guess Kanye's vocals will never fully be heard, but Tyler's art cover similar to the aesthetics of Bowie is heard loud and clear now after "Flower Boy", as much as hip-hop would love to keep Tyler, "Igor" shows genre expansion doesn't always have to be a bad thing, as long as it's genuine. And as a person suffering through heartbreak, "Igor" is as authentic as it gets. -
After a couple of listens, I have decided to go back on Tyler's discography and listen to Bastard and Goblin, only to come back and notice a extreme stylistic deviation from the edgy, offensive, attention-whoring Tyler and the more sensitive, heartfelt, boyish Tyler. I do think that Tyler has evolved as an artist and a person, with following Kanye's producer-rapper motif. Igor is a somewhat experimental album that is a bit unclean and dirty in comparison to his last full-length 'Scum Fuck Flower Boy'. It is a polarizing record between fans who like Cherry Bomb more than Igor or Flower Boy over Igor but overall I can say that this is a record worth buying, fan or not and is a decent record. It's not as bad as some people are saying, there's some good tracks on here that destroys Goblin composition wise and on of production, mixing and sound quality. I'm sure that even a guy like Scaruffi who basically trashed Tyler's discography would enjoy a few tracks off of this. 6/10. WOULD RECOMMEND.
